In the news: Volkswagen of America, Inc., a subsidiary of Wolfsburg-based Volkswagen and distributor of VW vehicles and auto parts like VW Diesel parts in the US---has recently announced that the Wolfsburg Edition Volkswagen Passat is already available at various Volkswagen dealerships. Volkswagen will produce only 6,000 of the special edition Passat models so those who are interested are advised to visit dealerships near them the sooner the better.
It should be noted that throughout the history of Volkswagen it has offered all sorts of special edition models for variety of reasons like for instance to commemorate our country's 200th birthday, Volkswagen has produced the Bicentennial VW Beetle. There are also times when Volkswagen creates vehicles just to accentuate a specific model's image such as the Fahrenheit GTI. Another occasion wherein Volkswagen offers special edition models is when they want to deliver an even greater valued vehicle to their customers just like the special edition Passat that it is are currently offering.
With the Wolfsburg Edition VW Passat, the automaker has been able to continue its long tradition of offering value priced special editions to its customers. The Passat Special Edition is equipped with a 2.0 L, 200 horsepower turbocharged engine with a standard six-speed automatic Tiptronic® transmission. In addition, each of the special edition Passat sedans includes the unique 'Wolfsburg Edition' badging that is found on both the driver and passenger front quarter panels.
The special edition Passat also features 17-inch alloy wheels, a four-spoke leather wrapped multi-function steering wheel , 12-way full power adjustable driver seat, leather wrapped gearshift knob and boot, six-disc in-dash CD changer with MP3 capability, heated front seats, heated windshield washer nozzles, power sunroof, Sirius(TM) satellite radio, and fog lights.
And just like the rest of the VW Passat model range, the Wolfsburg Edition also sport great number of safety features which includes six airbags-all standard, additional safety two rear side airbags offered as an option, four-wheel ABS anti-lock braking system with four-wheel disc brakes and Brake assist, Electronic Stabilization Program (ESP) and an electro-mechanical (electrically assisted) power steering system. The special edition VW Passat offers greater value at $26,990 as compared to similarly equipped non Wolfsburg Edition Passat.
The Wolfsburg Edition Volkswagen Passat, like all other new Volkswagens is offered with a 24-hour Roadside Assistance that include four years of unlimited mileage and other coverage such as 5-yaer/60,000 mile Powertrain Limited Warranty, 4-year/50,000 mile New Vehicle Limited Warranty with wear and tear items and adjustments excluded after the initial 12 months/12,000 miles and a 12-year unlimited distance Limited Warranty against corrosion perforation.

Volkswagen Eos – Goddess of the Dawn and Wind
Eos, which is the mythological Greek goddess of the dawn and the wind, is also the name affixed to one of the most beautiful models designed by German automaker Volkswagen. As a 2+2 cabriolet, the Eos shares the same mechanical underpinnings of the Passat, but has its own body panels and is sized closer to the Golf and the Jetta.
First introduced in 2006, the Eos replaced the Volkswagen Golf Cabriolet which had served as Volkswagen's entry level convertible model for more than two decades. That earlier model will be returning to Volkswagen in 2010 and will be slotted below the Eos, but just above the New Beetle Cabriolet. Meanwhile, the Eos will continue in its role as the premium drop top model for VW.
Volkswagen Design And Engineering
On the outside, the Eos incorporates Passat fascia, but the resemblance between the two models ends there. From the roof line on back, the sweeping style of the Eos is all sport coupe including its five piece retractable hard top roof, a design and engineering wonder that distinguishes the car from its soft top competitors. Indeed, the same technology found on the Eos is also offered on select Volvo and BMW models, demonstrating that Volkswagen made sure that its premium cabriolet was aimed at a more upscale client base while priced at least ten thousand dollars less.
Inside, the cabin design is clean and well laid out much as you would find in the VW Golf. As a matter of fact, the Golf and Eos share a nearly identical interior except for aluminum trim and dashboard dial upgrades. That commonality in design could turn off some buyers who may soon realize that on the outside the Eos more closely resembles the Passat while on the inside the cabin is all Golf.
Leg and head room in the front of the Eos is quite good, even for tall passengers, but a bit tight for those who must ride in the rear seats. Taller rear seating passengers would find the Eos a challenge for anything beyond a brief ride, but children or short adults should enjoy their accomodations.
One Engine/Transmission Combination
Under the hood, Volkswagen gives buyers just one engine/transmission pairing for the Eos. A turbo-charged 2.0L I4 engine and tiptronic six-speed transmission is it, the latter which includes paddle shifters and can be operated in either automatic or manual mode. The Eos is no speed demon, going from zero to sixty in 7.4 seconds – this car just begs for the optional 2.5L I5 engine found in some Jetta models, but you can't get it at least for right now. Despite that option not being offered, customers are likely to be happy that the Eos delivers 31 mpg on the highway, certainly making for a nice trade off.
Lastly, the same industry leading resale value that Volkswagen enjoys hasn't escaped the Eos. Even after five years of ownership, Kelley Blue Book (KBB) says that the Eos should retain about 52% of its value, one of the best returns for any convertible on the market.

Thinking of buying 2008 Volvo S40 2.4i, opinions/experiences?
I am thinking seriously of getting a 2007 or 2008 Volvo S40 Program car with the 2.4i 5 cylinder motor with automatic. No frills, no turbo. I hear they get good gas mileage as well. I would be replacing a 2000 VW diesel beetle. I would go back with a 2008-9 Jetta diesel, but diesel keeps going up and VW will charge too much for the option. Any opinions on the S40? It drives really well and seems sturdy. I can probably buy a program car for around $21,000 with only 6 thousand miles on it. Any help appreciated!
I have a 2006 and love it. I got it with all the accessories, though. It isn't a very smooth ride like a BMW, but it does get great gas mileage. I get about 26 mpg and I am a really hard driver. You can get 30 if you are a lighter driver.
The seats are very comfortable and I love the floating center console. Windshield wipers are hard to find and expensive from the dealer ($40 each) but change out at the press of a button. If you buy them before you need them you can get htem at an autoparts store for about $25.
