Timing belt assembly fluid leaks contamination ?

I own a UK Ford Focus 1.8 petrol and wondered how likely it is for any of the main fluids in the car i.e. engine oil, coolant, brake fluid and power steering fluid, if there were a leak, to contaminate the timing belt, tensioner and idler pulley.

I know in the Haynes manual (which I trust) that it says that any contamination "seriously reduces the service life of the belt and increases the risk of premature failure and engine damage."

I am now worried that if contamination were to happen I'd have the expense of having to replace all timing assembly components each time any leaks occured under the bonnet - this expense would obviously add up.

How common are oil leaks on a well maintained car and are they inevitable on older cars ? Do I need to worry ?

Get your timming belt changed at the reccomended service interval and you wont have to worry any more,any oil leak will also be found during this proceedure and can be rectified.
