The Ford Mondeo sedan was for the European market. Travel to the lands of the United States and North American and you would find the Ford Contour. The Ford Contour would be the Ford Mondeo's American counterpart. This sedan was actually sold by the Ford Motor Company starting from 1995 up until 2000. Fact is, this vehicle actually was the basis for building a version of this under the Mercury brand. And the result came to be the Mercury Mystique and later on became the Mercury Cougar. The Ford Contour was found in the Ford Motor Company's line up filling the niche between the Ford Escort and the Ford Taurus.
The Ford Contour has a DOHC V6 engine with 24 valves. It has an aluminum block and aluminum heads. This has a displacement of 155 cubic inches. It can produce some 170 units of bhp at 6250 rpm, and 165 pound feet at 4250 rpm. It has also been equipped with a five speed manual transmission system. The wheelbase of the Ford Contour measures 106.5 inches, 183.9 inches in length and has a curb weight of 2910 pounds.
From 1995 to 1996, the Ford Contour came to be body colored. The front seats were recessed to the back so as to improve rear seat leg room. This is compared to the first wave of Ford Contours that entered the American automobile market. After a year, changes were still done. Traction control no longer was given as an option. The remote fuel door release feature was deleted and the fuel door that this batch held had a flanged opening. Made available were an interior trunk light, a tilt steering wheel, and a power antenna. In 1997 to 1998, the Ford Contours that entered the streets sported front and rear end designs that were new. There were new alloy wheel designs. The sail panels on the rear door windows were now smooth and held the word "Contour" emblazoned on it.
As per the last years of the Ford Contour, it still continually received changes. In 1998 to 1999, the Ford Contour deleted one of its trim levels. There was a clock in radio available. There were also some color revisions. The rear window and the brake light designs had changed. For Canada, this was the last year of the Ford Contour. In the United States, 2000 was the last year for the vehicle.

Fusion Brings Good News to Ford
Ford officials expressed their undeniable euphoria because 21 different Ford vehicles made it to the Consumer Reports' list of recommended buys. Among the vehicles are Ford Fusion, Ford Five Hundred, and Mercury Milan. In addition, Fusion was made Consumer Reports cover.
Analysts in the auto industry expect that Fusion will follow the footsteps of Taurus without becoming what it eventually became. It can be recalled that Taurus was considered one of the bread and butter vehicles of Ford. In between 1986 and 1995, you cannot imagine the automaker will hit the market without the presence of Taurus. From 1992 to 1996, the vehicle was the best selling car in the United States.
Taurus came into the market and became an instant success. The vehicle was a milestone design for Ford. Ford Taurus car parts are meticulously planned and tested to come up with a very influential vehicle.
Taurus was redesigned in 1996. Unfortunately, said redesign ranked as one of the worst redesigns in the auto history. Finally, Ford has come up with a vehicle that has potentials to be the next big thing in the industry. Fusion is the vehicle that can serve as a mighty rival for Camry, Altima, Accord, and other state-of-the-art vehicles in similar segment.
Fusion is built on Ford's CD3 architecture. It measures 190.2 inches long, about 3.4 inches longer than Mazda6. Its 107.4-inch wheelbase is also longer by 2.1 inches. With regards to width, Fusion measures 72.2-inch-wide while Mazda is 2.1 inches broader.
In regard to the vehicle's rivals, they are almost exactly Fusion's size. Accord, for instance, measures 189.5 inches long, 71.5 inches wide, and rides on a 107.9-inch wheelbase. Compared to Taurus, Fusion is smaller.
Fusion is shipped out with 2 different 'Duratec' engines that are shared with the Mazda - base four and the V-6. the former is an all-aluminum 2.3-liter, DOHC four that produces 160 horsepower at 6500 rpm and 150 pound-feet of peak torque at 4000 rpm. The latter has DOHC heads, 24-valves, and generates 221 horsepower at 6250 rpm and 205 lb-ft of peak torque at 4800 rpm.

1992 Mercury Sable Transmission Problems?
This car has less than 60k original miles. Engine size is 3.8. Recently, the trans in this car will sometimes fall out of gear at low speed (driving thru a parking lot) and will sometimes downshift into low gear at highway speed. The PCM will not communicate with a scan tool (tried 3 different very expensive scan tools). I'm told that this often is the case with Mercury Sable and Ford Taurus automobiles of this vintage. With no diagnostic info to go on, I pulled the trans and disassembled. All internal components were found to be in pristine condition. We did replace an aluminum piston (noted no problem with it however) that sometimes gives trouble with a steel piston. After installing the trans and driving about 100 miles, am having the same problems. Just looking for thoughts on what might be the problem. Could a faulty PCM be the root of all this trouble? Anything else? I'm at the point of junking what is otherwise a very nice car.
on some of those cars, the computer controls the shifting.it might not be coming up on your check engine light, but you could have auto zone to check it out for you.
