PVC Pipe is a versatile form of pipe which has revolutionized modern plumbing. PVC can be used for drainage, waste water or vent piping but is not suitable for water supply, in which case, copper pipe is most commonly used.
PVC stands for Polyvinyl Chloride which is a compound designed for strength and durability. It is resistant to corrosive materials found in cleaners and other household chemicals and also to the extremes of hard and soft water. It resists leakage and does not conduct electricity. Too much gasket goo ? problems...?
i was working on this datsun motor at home. My dad was helping and we were putting the sump on. We got the gaskets, they were pretty new, not from an old set, anyways
my dad was putting a heap of gasket goo over the gaskets, i thought it was too much, it was definatly more than wat i would of used
As i was doing up the sump bolts, evenly of course and using a tension wrench, it was sup post to be 52 inch pounds. I did them up to a softer tension to start with, round 20 to 30 inch pounds and then the gasket started coming out the sides, we made sure it sat on the clean surface properly and everything.
Took the sump off and saw tht it seemed to like split through the middle. Why did this happen, did everything right. Could the amount of gasket goo affect it ?
could too much of it cause it to try and seep and tear the gasket apart ?... its my only theory

If "gasket goo" you're referring to is RTV silicone - you should never use this on any gasket. It simply doesn't allow the gasket to seat on the mating surfaces without eventually slipping and sliding out of place.
A gasket that "splits through the middle" when properly torqued is probably simply a defective or old, dried out gasket.
