In an effort to increase productivity, and profits, many aftermarket automotive performance engine component manufacturers in the United States have discontinued supplying important internal engine components such as crankshafts and connecting rods. A lack of available parts can create unique challenges for those in the performance and restoration engine rebuilding industry.
One engine model that has seen a significant reduction of available parts is the turbo Buick 3.8L engine. Popular aftermarket engine component manufacturers such as Eagle have discontinued selling forged connecting rods for these engines. Other options exist for the engine builder, but the reduced competition has driven up costs.
Crankshafts, once sold by both Eagle and Cat are no longer available. Those wishing to rebuild a Buick V6 engine, with a steel forged crankshaft, must look to other sources to assemble a forged rotating assembly for these high performance engines. Since a properly tuned turbo Buick engine can easily run nine seconds in the quarter mile, with the right internal engine components, the crankshaft is the most important rotating component of an engine that is being built to handle high horsepower.
Few aftermarket crankshaft suppliers exist for the 3.8L turbo charged Buick V6 engine. However, exporting countries such as China have seized on the opportunity to manufacture their own crankshafts for turbo Buicks. At the present time, Chinese manufacturers are exporting both 3.400 standard stroke and 3.625 stroker crankshafts to the United States.
We have inspected a good number of aftermarket crankshafts from China. Overall, they appear to be a solid piece. However, a few areas of concern should be addressed by those purchasing one of these cranks. The turbo Buick crankshafts from China typically have a crank keyway that must either be modified or a special key would need to be used for the harmonic balancer. Another area of the forged crankshaft that may need additional machine work is the flywheel flange area. Unlike American made crankshafts, the Chinese version has a large radius where the flywheel mounts at. This can cause the flywheel to not seat properly against the rear flange. Either the flywheel needs to be modified or the radius machined out of the rear crankshaft flange.
The finish grind on Chinese made crankshafts is average at best. Crank pin and main journal taper has checked within tolerance on most pieces. Journal out of round was limited and within specification on most pieces. We did need to complete a crankshaft grinding operation on a few of the crankshafts we inspected. But the overall majority of these crankshafts are within tolerance and have specifications which make them suitable for high performance applications.
It is important to note that the Chinese made 3.8L forged crankshafts should be internally balanced. While internal balancing is common for most performance applications, customers must be advised that additional expenses involving harmonic balancer and flexplate balancing or replacement will be required.
Overall, the quality and dependability of Chinese made crankshafts appears average. When customers are faced with few affordable choices for a forged crankshaft for their turbo Buick engine, imported automotive crankshafts have proven to be a dependable product that does not bust the budget.

Adult Toys in the Dark
Earth Hour. My hour in the dark really shed some light on things. While saving the planet doesn't usually turn me on, having my toys lined up like the Rockettes had me ready to go. Every single one of the toys in my house was laid out in an exceptionally organized manner.
Unfortunately, while working with a g-spot vibe, I tried to grab a Pocket Rocket and in my haste, the toys went sprawling on the floor. So I spent a good twenty minutes having fun to the sound of a vibrator buzzing on hardwood. Oh, and I know I said I was going to try the glow in the dark toys. I had a little kit of glow in the dark toys and I have to admit I got a little scared of putting something that looks nuclear in my hooha. So those toys stayed in the corner as mood lighting.
First, let's talk about the materials. I have always been a glass and silicone snob. Well, in the dark, jelly and silicone feel exactly alike. Sure, the silicone may be a little harder, but in the dark, when you're not shaking your toy at your lover (how often do you do that?), it's really all the same.
I'm going to stay a silicone snob because it makes me seem cooler, but just between you and me, I'm not gonna kick a jelly piece out of bed anymore. Sorry, jelly babe, come back to bed. It's all good.
The realistic materials don't feel different enough. All I had on hand was a CyberSkin piece. CyberSkin feels different than silicone and jelly at first. It has this really nice rub to it. When I stroke it, it feels like the real thing. The outside has just enough give to make it feel like skin moving. But lubed up, the feel is completely dependent on the toy. In the end, if it's not the real thing, it's not going to feel like the real thing in the dark. Unless I got a pair of hips or a back to hold onto, a piece will always feel like a toy and a man will feel like a man. I'm not a man, so I'm going to theorize a realistic stroker or female piece may actually feel different than jelly in the dark. I'll leave that up to the boys to decide.
With all that said, the winner was glass. I knew it when I touched it. It felt smooth like only glass feels. And it was cool at first (sometimes I put my glass in the fridge because I love the initial shock of cold). It was such a rush to feel it warm up to my own heat. Glass is almost as good as a lover because it is the only material that really reacts to your body. I'm still looking for the ultimate vibrating glass, but in truth, glass is the one material that doesn't need to buzz to satisfy.
Now to controllers. Oy! I had a tough time turning off my toys! No wonder I keep the lights on. Those multi-function vibrators are confusing even with the lights on. And one of my toys actually has four buttons. I just gave up. Couldn't even turn it on. I'd gladly read a users manual on those. The Lucid Dream #42 has my favorite controller in the light, but it was a pain to figure out in the dark. I found myself doing best with the old fashioned multi-speed knob. Righty-tighty, lefty-loosy.
That's all I had to remember. And my lipstick vibe was easy to turn on, but when I turned it off, I actually took it apart. I didn't break it, but it was a little disconcerting how easy it was to open. I have one toy that has a thumbroll controller at the bottom that reminds me of a blackberry wheel. It's more fun, though.
Overall, this was a fun little experiment. I may make a habit of it, you know, for the planet.

Good set of heads for 331 Stroker?
I'm getting a 331 stroker built and the machine shop ask me that what kind of heads was i putting in there so they could match the cam with it. I was thinking in maybe getting a complete kit from Trick Flow , but i'm not sure. I want to daily drive this car. It's a 87 mustang fuel injected. So what would y'all recommend? By the way, do y'all think 2,000 is a fair price for a 331?
You'll get many different answers because many people are going to like different engine setups. I think that the Trickflow and AFR 185's are some of the best out right now. I would lean towards the AFR's.
Also $2k is not too bad for a 331 setup.
