Open pod air filter VS original air-intake with drop-in air filter?

Hi people!
Contemplating whether to get an open pod air filter or just get a piece of drop-in air filter for my original stock air-intake..
I'm driving a 2007 version mitsubishi colt.
I've never tried open pod before..
But I've seen one on one of my friend's car before..
It was like sitting right in the middle of the engine bay..
Does that mean the air going in would be all hot, hot, and hotter?
Cos at least my stock air-intake has a scoop opening in between the bonnet and the bumper..
Which do you guys think'd be a better choice?
Cos I really need help here..
