The Unveiling of the Jaguar XKE in March 1961 had a tremendous effect on all who admired it for the first time and it cost only half the price of a Ferrari or Aston Martin! Supplied with the well tested XK engine that boosted 265hp!
Definitely, one of the most beautiful cars ever made in the history of automobiles, and with an engine with the immense capacity to thrust the car to over 240 km/h. Gorgeous lines with a sporty engine and excellent road performance at the time, all together for half of the price of a Ferrari or an Aston Martin! This is truly one amazing feat by the Jaguar XKE in 1961 and still unbeaten till this day!
The Jaguar plant at Coventry inherited the knowledge through the competition and the victories gained by the racing C Types and D Types at the Le Mans and applied that in the designing of the car. As the XK 150 was showing signs of ageing with its lines, but still with an outstanding XK engine, Jaguar decided to have its engineers secretly start to design and test a new model. This, as we know, Jaguar came enthusiastically to introduce the XKE. Jaguar had the intention of supplying an extraordinary road going car, which they did. What they did not expect, was that the new Jaguar XKE would also soon be on the racetracks and prove its worth!
The Jaguar XKE was presented in March 1961 at the Geneva Motor Show! The secret was well kept because its appearance provoked a tremendous affect to all who saw it for the first time.
Supplied with a six cylinder in line 3.8 litre XK engine with double overhead camshafts that boosted 265hp. This engine before was fitted to the XK 150S. The Jaguar XKE was offered first as a two seated coupe and as a convertible. The next couple of years it went through a small number of changes as in 1964 the engine was enlarged to 4.2 litres and with triple SU carburetors and a new all-synchromesh gearbox. The brakes were also improved and much more comfortable seats were also fitted.
In 1966 the Jaguar XKE 2+2 models were added to the range and with a longer wheelbase and higher roofline. A year later the headlamp covers were removed and changes to the engine had to be made to meet the strict US Federal emissions regulations and the rounded polished camshaft covers changed for black ribbed covers that ended up looking a bit more industrial.
The following year, the Jaguar XKE Series 2 model was presented with changes that were demanded by the US Federal safety regulations, and that included the headlamp rearrangement changed and wrap-around bumpers, also the front turn and taillights enlarged and placed below bumpers.
Still, Coventry knew that they had to make these changes on the Jaguar XKE in order to continue the success of sales in the US. Eventually power was reduced and better engine cooling was helped by an enlarged mouth air intake with twin electric fans fitted to the radiator. The braking was improved as well, but then again, because of regulations the Jaguar XKE original toggle switches had to be replaced for rocker switches, that were considered safer.
The Series 3 was introduced in 1971 with a 5.3 litre V12 engine and with a longer wheelbase, also a chrome grille was added to the engine hood mouth and the track was widened. As this Series 3 Jaguar XKE packed a V12, flared wheel arches were added also to identify its uniqueness. With the increase in engine weight power steering had to be installed as standard.
In 1973 the Jaguar XKE 2+2 model ceased production and the year later close to the end, the final open two-seater model was built but only to be registered in 1975.
The 2.5L Jeep Wrangler Engine
The Jeep Wrangler engine has become almost an American legend. This could be because it originated from the World War II jeep. Although an American vehicle, it's popularity has spread beyond the shores of America and it is manufactured in many parts of the world. Besides the assembly plants in Toledo, Ohio, there are also plants in Cairo, Egypt, and in Beijing, China. In the Philippines it is called the Dodge Wrangler TJ; in Egypt, Jeep TJL, in China, Jeep BJ 2023 and Jeep Zhangqi 2023. Also, the American military version is called the J8. The body style are either 2 door convertible or 2 door truck.
Jeep has had numerous manufacturers: American Motors (AMC) (1987), Chrysler Corporation (1987–1998), DaimlerChrysler (1998–2007), Chrysler LLC (2008–2009), Chrysler Group LLC (2009–), Arab American Vehicles (1987-).
As a class of vehicle it is categorized as a mini SUV and as a convertible. The layout is a front engine, rear-wheel drive or four-wheel drive
The 2.5 L AMC model, out of the many Jeep choices available, has proven to have an enthusiastic following. The engine size and specs for the 2.5 L AMC 150 I4 are a cubic displacement of 150.4 (2,465 cc), a stroke of 3.188 in (81 mm), and a bore of 3.875 in (98 mm). Power and torque vary.
The strength of the Jeep Wrangler Engine is that it is a reliable off-road vehicle, offering many off-road capabilities and benefits. The rugged horsepower Jeep Wrangler Engine makes it a versatile and capable off road choice. The overdrive is a standard feature and the 4 speed automatic transmission is an optional one. The strengths, then, are it's powerful off-road capacities, it's low cost to maintain, it's easy to repair with hand tools, it's able to hold it's aftermarket value, and the inline-6 makes it a great value.
However, the Jeep Wrangler engine also has weaknesses. These include some mechanical shortcomings not common in other cars designed for urban drivers. Moreover, it is heavy on gas mileage.
Modifications are quite common to the Jeep Wrangler Engine for enhanced off-road performance. Engine modifications include snorkel (to prevent water from getting in the engine), small block chevy swap, V8 Conversion, Weber Carburetor or MC2100 Carburetor swap (4.2L only), the Nutter bypass (4.2L only) and the 4.0 Head Swap (4.2L only).
Although alternative applications in some states are not legal for pollution-controlled vehicles or Jeeps registered for highway use, many conversion kits are possible to make the Jeep Wrangler Engine more efficient, reliable and powerful. These kits have to be tested, and track tested for the 2.5 L AMC engines, because many parts from other models are not compatible. However, once modified, it can satisfy a wide range of profiles, from rock climbers to all-out racing.
Maintenance on jeep wrangler engines in general and the 2.5 L AMC model in particular are fairly standard. Like most cars and trucks, maintenance consists of looking at service intervals, keeping maintenance schedules, and keeping up with the latest replacement guides.
