Seat Indicator Repair

Any car registered for use on the road in the EC has to pass some form of mechanical and emissions examination - known in the UK as the 'MOT'.
UK cars must be tested at the end of their third year, and on a yearly basis afterwards. You can have your car tested up to one month before expiry. Better late than never!

An MOT certificate will be issued once the car passes all fundamentals of the test. Failing to have a legitimate MOT certificate for a car over three years old is a crime.

So, here is a list of basic things you can check before delivering that old banger of an automobile down to the local garage...

1. Tyres: Make sure all the tyres are inflated to the correct pressure, and there is at least 1.6mm of tread across the the tyre. Ensure there are no lumps, bulges or cut areas.
2. Lights: Ensure the following lights are working correctly- front position lights (side lights), headlights, rear lights, rear registration plate light, rear fog lamps, headlamps, brake lights and indicator lights. Check all bulbs are working even when light is tapped lightly
3. Hazard Lights: Check all indicator lights sparkle when the hazard light switch is selected. Check with the ignition off and on.
4. Horn: Make sure it sounds correctly and is not a two tone type horn.
5. Registration Plate: Check it is not cracked, firmly fastened and not obscured. Also ensure the letters are of the correct size and spacing.
6. Vehicle Identification Number: Verify the car has a Vehicle Identification Number displayed.
7. Seat belts: Check all the seat belts fasten and unfasten correctly and are not damaged (tiny frays can sometimes warrant fixing)
8. Mirrors: Mirrors should be fitted where required, usable and not damaged.
9. Wipers and Washers: The washer bottle should be full of liquid and wipers undamaged.
10. Windscreen: Chips in the windscreen are a big no no! In an area in front of the driver a chip cannot be bigger than 10mm, in other areas swept by the wipers that damage cannot be more than 40mm.

Guide and tips on how to repair computer and troubleshoot pc

Introduction

Computer problems can be upsetting. But most of them are minor and can be repaired easily, so don't panic and take a deep breathe when pc problems happen to you.

Basic computer repair / pc troubleshooting tips and guide:

1. Check the power strip connection. Is the power indicator light lit? Make sure the power switch is turned on and to the correct AC voltage. Then shut down the power and check all the cables of your computer such as data cables, power cable, internal circuitry cables and cards if possible and devices like mouse, keyboard, monitor, etc. and make sure that everything is seated properly and working fine. You can push the cables or devices gently. Sometimes you need to actually unplug them from the computer and then plug in again.

2. When you notice a software or hardware error in your computer, try to find out what was changed before the problem occurred. In the meantime, you can google the error message and find a fix to the problem. The following are some common error messages and solutions:

a. "Non-System disk or disk error": remove non-system diskette, USB, CD inserted before starting computer.
b. "Windows was not properly shut down. One or more of your disk drives may have errors on it.  Press any key to run ScanDisk on these drives.": Press the enter key and allow the machine to do a scan and fix the problems.
c. "Not enough memory / Insufficient memory": Close some programs and try again.
d. "My monitor is black": Check power and cable connection. Check if it is in sleep mode, especially laptop.
e. "No sound": Check if the speaker is plugged into the wrong socket, MIC. Also check Mute? Volume?
f. "Computer freezes": Try Ctrl+Alt+Del. If it does not work, force the computer to power off by keeping on pressing power key until the pc shuts down. Then wait for about 10-15 seconds and re-start computer.

3. Use the event viewer utility by going to Start --> Control panel --> Administrative tools --> Event viewer. By using this tool, you will find the error or warning messages associated with any faulty hardware or software.
4. Check the hardware settings in the device manager of the system and make sure all the device drivers is up to date and working properly, that is, there is no error sign shown.
5. When you find a faulty component in your computer, you should check it with the other good computers so that you can make sure whether the component has problems or not before buying a new one.
6. If the above is ok and your computer still has problems, it might be the cause of virus or the registry / system files corrupted. You can find related tools to fix the problem. If the problem is serious, consider to re-install the Operating System. It is recommended that you create two partitions. One is for your OS and the other is for your data.
7. Finally, it is important to take a detailed note for future use.

Conclusion

When you try to repair a computer, it is important to find out what you did before and also your focus should be on power supply, video, mother board, CPU and the hard drive.

2001 Mustang Repair Quote..is this ligit?

Hi all - my friends got a 2001 with around 76K miles on it and after she told me what's going on with her car I tried to help. Now she has a whacked out quote - maybe.

Yesterday She complained that the brakes are making noise. Cool - I'm thinking brake pad wear indicators right? I tell her to go to the local quicky brake place and tell them you only want the pads done - no rotors.

Well she leaves with a quote for the following:

Pads
New Rotors (did they take off the wheels? No.)
Rear brake vibration (guy drove car and felt vibration in the seat - claims it has to do with the rear brakes)
Sticking caliper - guy puts car on lift and demonstrates how one rear wheel doesn't turn very easily. (I think he put the e-brake on to scam her)
Flush and bleed
Replace One tire with abnormal wear
alignment and balance
serpentine belt

$600+

tell her to get 2 more quotes and see if she"s being conned

make sure the garages do free estimates
