Not long ago, I was discussing classic cars with an acquaintance out in California, who is a specialist in auto appraisals there. He explained how tattered, torn, or dirty vinyl seats could bring down the price on an otherwise mint condition classic car. Thus, knowing that I was into auto-detailing techniques he asked what could be done about this? So, I explained:
Most automobiles do not have leather seats, and many folks who think they have leather seats find out later than they are actually vinyl. Still, they should not be too alarmed often vinyl can be preferable, and it sure is a lot easier to clean and maintain as well. Okay so, you want to know how to clean your vinyl seats yourself - so here are some tips to get this done properly below;
1.) First, you need to inspect your vinyl seats, and the vinyl around the doors, windows, and dashboard. Is it all the same, or do you have several types of vinyl? Is some of the vinyl is more plastic like, or rubbery - you may need two types of products to bring out the shine, and put on a protective coating. Auto detailers often have four or five different interior vinyl cleaners for just this reason.
2.) You need a non-alkali cleaner when cleaning interior vinyl in your car, and the thicker the vinyl cleaner usually the better for longer life and protection. For straight cleaning you will want something that is not so thick, you will be using that first, and once it is totally clean, then you can apply the lotion like product for long-lasting protection.
3.) It is important to only use automotive or marine grade vinyl cleaners, do not use household cleaners, as they can easily discolor.
4.) When applying the cleaner or protectant always apply it to a rag, or applicator, do not spray it on directly, otherwise you can cause uneven color patterns and/or ruin the vinyl's factory condition. Remember too, some of the cheaper vinyl may have a coating on it - you don't want to go through the coating, rather your goal is to clean that protective coating.
5.) When rubbing out a stain, apply pressure as needed, and then look at what you've done early and often. Make sure you see that your results are making a difference without rubbing off the important properties or coloring.
6.) Once it looks perfectly clean, you need to remove the cleaning residue and tackiness from the vinyl. It should not be sticky at all. Use a little water or a dash of soap with water by moistening the rag and wiping.
7.) after you are completely satisfied with the previous step, check the instructions on the Protective Vinyl Conditioner and apply it carefully taking your time.
Make sure it is completely dry before driving, and make sure the seats are not slippery. There have been many lawsuits after interior auto detailing companies were completed, where folks had later slipped on the seat while driving causing an accident. Don't become your own statistic.

Uses Of Auto Seat Covers
It is an irony that auto seat covers are the most neglected thing in a car, while so much importance is given to its looks. Auto seat covers are as important for your car as any other part of your car. These covers will keep your seats free from dirt and other harmful elements. They will also maintain their shape.
There are several companies which offer designed seat covers. There are some companies which make baby seat covers made of cotton and silk, so as not to harm the baby's skin. The most important feature of an infant seat cover is the security it provides to the baby while the car is moving. Also, it provides security to parents against the mess created by children. You just need to detach the seat cover, toss it in the washing machine and refit it again to give the seat its usual look.
Auto Seat Cover Materials
Soft Touch: Poly-cotton is the most widely used material for auto seat covers. It is very soft to touch, and also renders protection against harmful elements simultaneously.
Sheepskin: The usage of sheepskin is common next to poly-cotton for seat covers. It is considered to be thermostatic in nature, as it is warm during cold conditions and cool during warm conditions.
UV Protected Sheets: Another good choice of seat covers that you can consider having are Velour seat covers. They are also very soft to touch like poly-cotton. However they are different, as they possess an additional ultraviolet coating. So they will protect the color of your car seats from fading.
Types of Auto Seat Covers
Universal Auto Seat Covers: These kinds of seat covers are a universal fit. This means that they can be fitted to almost every kind of car seat, whether they are low-back or high-back bucket seats. It is very convenient to fit and remove them. But they cannot be used for car seats with side-impact airbags.
Custom Auto Seat Covers: These auto seat covers are tailor made. They can be made as per the measured size of specified car seats. While making custom covers, every minor detail of the car seat is taken notice of and pondered over. This fitting is considered perfect, as it is specifically made to fulfill the particular requirements of the car.
Hybrid Semi-Custom Auto Seat Covers: These kinds of seat covers are best if you cannot afford custom covers. They may not provide you with all the features which are rendered by the latter, but they are able to protect your car seat against any harmful elements.
Maintained car seats give a beautiful look to the interior of your car. So it is always recommended to use auto seat covers to provide your car seats with protection against any harmful elements. This will increase the durability of the interior of your car.

How do I change the fuel pump on a 94 Ford Escort LX.?
I found the metal plate under the seat, disconnected the plastic wire connector, and removed the plate.
Under this plate is a very rusty looking ring with two fuel lines connected to it and four small circular wire connectors.
How do I remove the ring and pull out the fuel pump to change it?
Also, since the ring is so badly rusted, can it be replaced, can I get the replacement at the auto parts store?
Also, do I need to prime the fuel pump before reconnecting it back to the fuel tank?
Thanks, and sorry about all the questions, I have never done this before.
Sorry I would have answered this on your other question. You can go to autozone or checker. You might need a special tool to remove it. They have loan a tool. You put down a deposit and they give it back when you bring back the tool. So basically its free. You shouldnt have to prime the fuel pump. It will suck in gas pretty fast.
To be safe I would first call autozone and get your price. Then I would call the dealer. Ask for service. You will get to the service department. Tell them exactly what you are doing. Almost all dealers train their service people to answer any of your questions. Its good business. They will tell you exactly for free. They will also give you tips on how to make it easier.
First autozone (or whatever part store, just dont buy it from the dealer unless you are loaded) then call the dealer ask for service. Give them the same question you just wrote down. They will help you. If one place is busy or being jerks call another. But normally they will help.
As per the Haynes service manual. Great idea. But its a 94. They should have it at your local library. Its old enough. Just go to the library and copy the part you need or check it out.
Good Luck again.
*update*
Okay im pretty sure this is your car. Its on the 94 board. This has the entire haynes manual at the top. Its 200+ pages. It will load if you right click you can zoom on the page. You can print the entire book if you want. But this should help you.
