How come? The answer is simple. I don't listen to the BS that's thrown at us everyday from the gloomers and doomers of the world. I have been self employed for over 28 years now and I had some of my best years during the worst of times.
It was about 28 years ago that I had a cushy job as a sales executive with a very large insurance company. I received a very good income and had a benefits package second to none. I came and went as I pleased. The company treated me well. I was held in high esteem by all my peers. They were absolutely stunned when I turned in my resignation a few days short of my 24th anniversary. During a separation interview with my boss, I could not convince him that I had good reason to leave an assured lifetime position with a great company. He could not understand that I had reached a point in my life that I was bored with doing the same old same - old day, in and day out. Money was no longer my motivation. I needed a challenge. I needed something that would motivate me to be more and do more. I needed to wake up everyday with a fire in my belly so I could attack life with enthusiasm and have fun doing it. I wanted independence. I no longer wanted my families future to be determined by others. I wanted a crack at the American dream of time and financial independence.
Some of you that read this will not appreciate the brilliance of my timing. I bought a small interior design contacting furnishing company in 1980. For you youngsters, I should point out that Jimmy Carter was our illustrious president. Interest rates were about 23%. Our economy was definitely in the toilet. And here I am, a jacked up young insurance man taking over a business he knew very little about. Trust me. More than one of my many fiends and business associates thought I lost a screw or two.
With absolutely passion I went about learning everything I could about my business. The who, what, where and why. It didn't take long to figure that the competition bought into Carters crummy economy and cut back on marketing to protect their bottom line. They spent long lunches over a few martinis, peeing and moaning about our screwed up country and President Carter. While I spent my day on the road making sales calls taking their customers away from them. I found the Big Mac to be the best meal on wheels.
When I bought this business their best sales year was 1975 with $550,000. The year before I purchased the company sales were down to $198,000. My accountant really thought I was off my rocker buying this company, but obviously he didn't know what I knew and felt about creating a market with this once very successful company.
While the economy was still in the tank, I had my best sales year, 3 years later with total sales of $1.5 million.
Moral of the story? Is this guy a big hitter? Heck no. This has nothing to do with his success. It has everything to do ignoring the outside negatives and roll up your sleeves and you can make money regardless of the economy.

How to Care for Your Adirondack Furniture
Adirondack furniture is a beautiful addition to the exterior area of any home. The classic look combined with the ultimate comfort transform any backyard into a rustic retreat. But, as with any wood product, Adirondack chairs require maintenance if you expect to get your value out of your purchase.
Left on their own, Adirondack chairs will turn to a silvery gray color over time. This is called patina. Restoring the wood to its natural color requires a full sanding, which is not an easy task. You can delay the onset of patina by keeping your chair well-sealed, adding stain or tint.
Regardless of whether you choose cedar or pine, we recommend sealing your furniture with a quality exterior sealant. We recommend Cabot, a sealant that is available with a variety of stains or tints. You also have several choices in opacity, depending on how much grain you want to show through. You can also choose Clearkote, which is a clear sealant.
Seal the chair every year to two years as needed. When your chair starts to absorb water on the arms, rather than repel it, then you know it is time to reseal your chair. When sealing, be careful not to over saturate the wood. A single coating of sealant should be enough to protect it for the season. Over sealing does not necessarily mean that you are adding extra protection to the wood. You are just delaying the drying process.
Store your furniture in a safe, dry area when not in use or when weather becomes to inclement. You can also choose to cover your furniture with commercially available covers. Whether you store your furniture in a garage, or cover it, we recommend setting the legs on something that will not transfer moisture to the wood (such as patio block).
If you decide to paint your chair rather than using a tinted sealant, choose a paint that allows the wood to breathe. Oil-based paints tend to lock in moisture preventing the chair from breathing. Eventually, the chair will rot from the inside out. Choose a latex or water-based acrylic paint which allows moisture to escape.
Decide where to place your chairs, rockers, or lounges. Placing them directly under trees is a sure-fire way to insure they will get dirty quickly. The rain water washes all of the dirt off of the tree and deposits it right on your chair. To clean dirt build-up you can use a mild-detergent, or a light concentration of water and bleach. You can also buy commercial wood cleaners such as Murphy's Oil Soap.
Be sure to check all hardware each season and retighten any screws or bolts that have become loose. This is particularly important with Adirondack rockers, swings or gliders, as the motion of the furniture can cause the hardware to loosen over time.
Taking some simple steps will increase the longevity of your furniture, and consequently increase your satisfaction with the product.

how to adjust screw on rocker arm for briggs & stratton overhead motor?
if i knew more about lawnmowers it would help the motor is out of a white mtd
usually you need a open end wrench and an allen wrench. loosen the set screw inside the nut and adjust the nut to spec and then tighten the set screw and double check lash. good luck.
