This time of year especially in the warmer climates the air conditioner goes from a luxury to a necessity. You turn your air conditioner on for the first time of the season and you realize it is not blowing as cold as it should. This may be okay for a few weeks but once the dog days of summer hit, look out.
The first impulse of the vehicle owner is normally to stop by their local automotive store and pickup a few cans of refrigerant. However, this often is not the fix your car needs to literally make you cool. If you are in this situation here are a few other things that may be the culprit.
- A/C Clutch- The A/C clutch is an electromagnetic clutch that turns the air conditioning compressor on and off. This part may work intermittently, it may make noise as the bearings start to go out, the clutch itself may slip or burn up.
- High Pressure Switch- The high pressure cutout switch turns off the air conditioning compressor when pressures reach dangerously high levels. This could be due to a restricted system (debris in the system, where liquid cannot change into gas fast enough), or possibly an overcharge. This could be a reason for your air compressor to not run correctly, or to not run at all.
- Low Pressure Cutoff Switch- If your refrigerant gets to less than seven pounds, this switch shuts the system down to prevent premature compressor failure. If this cutoff switch fails the compressor itself will not come on without this safety feature working correctly.
- Condenser & Evaporator - The condenser can become plugged up internally. This may also cause your high pressure switch to activate. If the condenser fan is not working the A/C will not blow as cold or as efficient as it could because it is not taking the heat away as fast as it should. The evaporator can become plugged with dirt and dust causing restricted air flow from the dash, or insufficient cooling.
- Orifice Tube- A small tubular screen where pressure builds up. The refrigerant is atomized inside as it leaves this tube, changing from a liquid refrigerant to a cold gas. This failure is rarely a hole, most often however it is a restriction from debris or a failed compressor. When this happens there is the usual intermittent or insufficient cooling.
- Refrigerant- Often if you have to add refrigerant on a regular basis this is a sign you have a leak somewhere in your air conditioning system. To keep your system running well and to prevent leaks in the summer time run your A/C once a month in the off-season for about five minutes to keep the system lubricated.
This year I hope you were one of the lucky ones who leaned over, slid your A/C lever into the blue range or pressed the button, and all was well. If not please grab your owners manual and check out a few of the components I have outlined above so you can fix it right the first time.
Andrew Dale King has been taking things apart and putting them back together long enough to know that if you fix it right the first time it saves a lot of money, effort, and time. EPDM rubber
Usage
An EPDM rubber roof
EPDM rubber is used in vibrators and seals; glass-run channel; radiator, garden and appliance hose; tubing; washers; belts; electrical insulation, and speaker cone surrounds. It is also used as a medium for water resistance in high-voltage polymeric cable jointing installations, roofing membrane, geomembranes, rubber mechanical goods, plastic impact modification, thermoplastic, vulcanizates, as a motor oil additive, pond liner, electrical cable-jointing, RV roofs, and chainmail applications.
EPDM exhibits satisfactory compatibility with fireproof hydraulic fluids, ketones, hot and cold water, and alkalis, and unsatisfactory compatibility with most oils, gasoline, kerosene, aromatic and aliphatic hydrocarbons, halogenated solvents, and concentrated acids.
The main properties of EPDM are its outstanding heat, ozone and weather resistance. The resistance to polar substances and steam are also good. It has excellent electrical properties. It has the ability to retain light colour.
Typical properties of EPDM vulcanisates are given below. EPDM can be compounded to meet specific properties to a limit depending first on the EPDM polymers available, then the processing and curing method(s) employed. EPDMs are available in a range of molecular weights (indicated in terms of Mooney viscosity ML(1+4)@125C), varying levels of ethylene, third monomer and oil content.

Common Application
Vehicles
EPDM rubber is commonly used in weatherseals on all vehicles. This includes door seals, window seals, trunk seals, and sometimes hood seals. Frequently these seals are the source of noise due to movement of the door versus the car body. This is due to friction between the EPDM rubber and the mating surface (car painted sheet metal or glass). This can be alleviated using specialty coatings that are applied at the time of manufacture of the weatherseal, not as an aftermarket application. Such coatings can also greatly increase the chemical resistance of EPDM rubber. Some vehicle manufacturers such as General Motors also recommend a light application of silicone dielectric grease to weatherstripping to reduce noise.
In general, EPDM is especially used in cooling system circuit hoses in an automobile. Water pump, thermostat, EGR valve, EGR cooler, Heater, oil cooler, radiator and degas bottle is connected with hoses of which material is usually EPDM. Avon Automotive is one of the most famous company as a supplier of EPDM hoses for worldwide customers like Ford, Toyota, GM, Renault.
Additionally, EPDM can be used as charge air tubing on turbo charged engines. More specifically, it can be used to connect the cold side of the charge air cooler(aka "intercooler") to the intake manifold.
Safety Equipment
EPDM is also commonly used as a material for the face seals of industrial respirators, most frequently chosen where the use of silicone must be avoided, typically in automotive paint spray environments.
Solar Pool Panels
Extruded EPDM is used to make a solar heat collector for swimming pool solar water heating systems.
Roofing
EPDM is used as a covering to waterproof roofs. It has the benefit that it does not pollute the runoff rainwater, which is of vital importance if the house owner wishes to use this water for personal sanitation/hygiene. Several houses equipped with rainwater harvesting thus make use of this type of roofing.
Playground/Pool Deck Surfacing
Granulated, colored EPDM granules are mixed with Polyurethane binders and trowled or sprayed onto concrete, asphalt, screenings, interlocking brick, wood etc.. to create a non-slip, soft, pourous safety surface for wet-deck areas such as pool decks or playgrounds.

U got that right and still is?
In 1954 leo fender invented one of the most popular guitars of all time the fender stratocaster it is still the one of if not the most popular guitars in production with very little improvements since the 54 model. and it is the most imitated guitar of all time. Also in the 1950's gibson guitars introduced the les paul (my favorite) after genius guitar player and inventor les paul you may know him from his days les paul and mary ford, this is the second guitar that is still one of the most popular and imitated guitars they both are almost exactly as they were about 60 years ago. and most guitar players now and since the 50's still use an out of date technology, the vacuum tube amplifier which is still the best sounding amp to date. Now how many inventions do you know today that are still state of the art for 60 years. p.s. this will get reported to so I hope you enjoyed while it appears on your screen
Les Paul is Steve Miller's Godfather or was before he passed.
