It's always a pleasure to enjoy the fall of cool air on our body especially during hot summers. So you can attend marriage or any other personal functions or meetings with your face radiating beams of freshness. A powerful car air conditioner could greatly bring down the weariness caused by long drives especially automotive air conditioners in many cars which would be the dream cars of today's youngsters.
However, automotive air conditioning is always not a standard addition provided in a car. Cars manufactured before 1940 lacked the feature as it was not invented by then. Gradually several enhancements were done to the system. The repair requires a trained professional's help. People curious to get to know the bottom of things may attempt to do some repairs by themselves exercising caution.
In small air conditioned cars, there may be a slight drop in pick up of the vehicle but this will not be the case with big cars.
The Standard Parts of Automotive Air Conditioning
The automotive air conditioning system comprises seven major parts.
These parts are:
1) Compressor - As heart is to the human body, so is compressor to the AC system. It is basically a pump connected to the engine whose chief function is to compress the refrigerant from the evaporator coils and the compressor, or "the heart of the system," is a pump that is attached to the engine. Its purpose is to compress and transfer refrigerant gas. The compressor has both an intake and a discharge side.
2) Condenser - It functions very much like the radiator and will most often have a similar appearance. The purpose of the condenser is to radiate or to give away heat, so whenever the AC is switched on condenser must have good supply of air for cooling purposes.
3) Evaporator - Its chief duty is to absorb heat. Besides getting rid of heat from inside your vehicle, it is also responsible for dehumidifying the car. In order to regulate the temperature of the evaporator, pressure introducing pressure regulating devices like orifice tube is necessary
4) The receiver is used in automotive air conditioning systems that employ thermal expansion valves as pressure regulating devices to ensure that this pressure regulating device receives the liquid refrigerant that it needs in order to function. In order to do so, it must separate gas and liquid.
5) The accumulator is used only on automotive air conditioning systems that have the orifice tube as the pressure regulating device, and its main function is to store surplus liquid refrigerant. In doing so, it prevents any liquid from entering the compressor, which could be detrimental to the system.
In spite of the modern advancements that have been made in the automotive field since the introduction of automotive air conditioning, it is still possible to maintain your own system even if it is an olden day style.

Choosing a Heat Pump Air Conditioner
When choosing a heat pump, there are a number of factors to consider. This article should leave you better informed on choosing a heat pump.
Location, location, location…
Where you want a heat pump plays a crucial factor in choosing which heat pump is right for you. The larger your room, the larger the capacity of heat pump you require.
If you wish to install a heat pump in your bedroom, take particular care to opt for the quietest possible unit. If you get a noisy heat pump then you will not sleep too easily due to the high noise levels. Mitsubishi Electric manufacture extremely quiet heat pumps.
The number of rooms you wish to heat or cool also play a part in the selection of a heat pump. If you wish to heat or cool one room, a wall mounted heat pump is the best option. For two or more rooms, you can go for either a ducted system or two wall mounted heat pumps.
Ducted Heat Pumps
A ducted heat pump can be installed in your roof space, or in the crawl space beneath your house. A number of air grilles (or registers) are then cut into your floor or ceiling. These vents are then connected to the heat pump to allow air to circulate and be heated or cooled.
Wall Mounted Heat Pumps
These are usually mounted high up on the wall (high wall heat pump), or low down as a replacement for old electric or gas heaters. Wall mounted heat pumps are suitable for heating or cooling one room.
Correct Sizing
You must get the correct size heat pump for your room. Too small a heat pump will cause it to run at maximum throttle as it struggles to heat or cool your room. If a heat pump is oversized, it can lead to it cycling on and off, causing temperature fluctuations. To ensure correct sizing of a heat pump, always consult the professionals for a correct heat load estimation and capacity sizing.
Heat Pump Features
Modern heat pumps are very energy efficient and cost effective to run. They can heat, or cool your room to a comfortable level. Other features of a heat pump include air filters that trap dust and pollen. Water is removed from the air by dehumidification. This leads to cleaner, healthier air.
Most heat pumps also come with an infrared remote controller, and timer functions. This allows you to set the heat pump to turn on and off automatically when you know you will be away from home and when you will arrive home.
Heat pump installation
An air conditioning expert can usually install a wall mounted heat pump in around 6 to 8 hours. A qualified master electrician must do the final electrical connections, and the heat pump should be commissioned correctly by a qualified air conditioning expert. Failure to follow the strict installation procedures can and will cause damage to a heat pump. Always call in the professionals.

I have a small drip coming from the raw water pump, whats the problem?
1997 Caravelle 1900BR
3.0L HO Volvo Penta
SX Cobra Outdrive
I have a small leak coming from my raw water pump, it is not a continuous stream just a drop every now and then. The best I can tell it is coming from between the shaft and water pump housing. Is there just a small o-ring there? How can this be fixed?
We're going to the lake for Memorial Day Weekend. Will I be alright with the small drip for over the weekend? Then I'll fix it when I can get the parts.
Well I don't know what mavrick is smoking but obviously he hasn't got a clue about a raw water pump on a volvo. He probably is on a sail boat.
Here it is. There is a non replaceable seal on the shaft in the back of the pump. You have a 12 year old boat. Its time it went bad. The only way to repair it is to replace the pump. If you could get a seal from Volvo ( I will look it up in a minute) You would have to press the shaft out of the pump and this would more than likely end badly . You would end up replacing it anyway.
So replace the pump , If it is just a small drip and the engine is not running hot you can run it but there is no telling when it will all of the sudden just disintegrate.
Uncharted waters
The aged St. Lawrence Seaway is beginning to crumble. One option: Make it bigger, which could attract more overseas traffic - and more ecological havoc. A more likely option: Refurbish it. And then there is a third option.
