The 1959 Austin Healey Sprite was the second year for the bug eye or frog eye as the Americans put it. This funny looking car became an ionic sensation even thou its production life only lasted a brief time.
The specifications from the brochure of that year were stated as follows. It was an inline 4 cylinder with over head valves that was water cooled and had 3 main bearings on the crankshaft. The bore of the cylinder was 2.478 inches and the stroke was 3 inches which gave the engine the capacity of 948cc. the maximum horsepower it could produce was 48 at 5000 rpms. The compression ratio of the cylinders was 8.3:1.
The fuel system utilized was 2 semi downdraft SU carburetors. These were supplied fuel by an AC type Y mechanical pump. The fuel capacity of the tank was 6 gallons.
The clutch was a dry plate that was 6 1/4 inches in diameter. The transmission was a four gear manual transmission. The ratios were first gear 3.628; second 2.374; third 1.412 and 4th was 1.00. The reverse was 4.664 to 1.
What were really interesting were the options that were available for this model. This included a radio, heater and demister. You also had to ask for a windscreen washer and a revolution counter.
The colors that were available were Cherry Red, Leaf Green Old English white, Iris Blue and Navada beige for the exterior. The inside trim was red, black green or blue.
The 1959 Austin Healey Sprite bug eye was a wonderful car that is still seen on the roads today if you know where to look.

More Recalls for Chrysler and Ford
It seems like there are going to be more recalls. Especially now that the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, or the NHTSA, has announced another batch of auto manufacturers that would be doing their own share of recalls.
According to the United States' government's NHTSA, there would be three separate auto recalls that are ongoing right now. In fact, they had estimated that there would be around 130,600 vehicle units that are going to be affected by the previously mentioned recall. That would be quite a huge amount and that would also mean that there would be some 130,600 vehicle owners who would have to go through undue stress because of such recalls. But this would be in the case of safety and performance of the vehicle, and not just some simple replacement of things like Ford Custom 500 parts.
Out of the 130,600 vehicles that are being recalled, a huge portion of that whole is actually vehicles from the Chrysler Group which is part of the big corporation Daimler Chrysler AG. This is still in accordance to the statement given out by the NHTSA. However, the other small part left behind does belong to the financially unstable Ford Motor Company.
For Chrysler, they would be taking back some 127,928 units of Chrysler Pacificas which were manufactured as part of the model years 2005 and 2006. The Chrysler Pacifica is a crossover vehicle and the problem with them is that they have been manufactured with fuel pump modules and powertrain control module software that can be quite dangerous for some. In fact, these can actually allow the engine to stall during some condition types and in the process lead to a crash without much warning to the driver. During the mentioned recall, the company would be the one to shoulder costs with regards to reprogramming both software. The fuel pump module on the Chrysler Pacifica would also be replaced.
Other vehicles to be recalled include the Chrysler Sebring which is a sedan. There would be 2258 units of these to be recalled and the list would include those that were produced for the 2007 model year.
As per the Ford Motor Company, they would be taking back 422 units of the Ford Crown Victoria and the Mercury Grand Marquis. Only those that were from the 2007 model year would be recalled.

what is wrong with my car?
i have a 1999 ford mercury mistique. when i first started driving it, i had to get the rpms up to 3 then let off of the gas to let the gears catch up before i could drive normally. it was a pain taking off from stoplights or stopsigns. now, i have to do that only i have to go extremly slow, around 20 mph, for several long seconds, until it will slowly speed up to normal. also, i have problems going up even the smallest hill, and the engine shuts off if it is a big hill. i got the fuel filter replaced. i was wondering if maybe it is the transmission, or a fuel pump? also, how much does it usually charge to get an electronic read of what is wrong?
thanks for the info.
I'd say transmission or a relay for trans. all simptoms of take off and up hill climbs are trans and there may be a safety switch that shuts off fuel when a fluid gets over heated as in trans fluid would going up hill. also drain a bit of fluid out of the bottom of radiator see if there is oil and/or trans fluid mixed in the water. could be an internal leek inside of radiator getting fluid into your trans. for the money cheapest is check radiator fluid, go get an electrical diagnostic, replace fuel pump (not likely), rebuild transmition.
