Psychotherapy methods vary today, with techniques which require the use of direct treatment of a condition and techniques which involve the use of creative methods which are aimed at providing better comfort for the client. For patients who are found with borderline personality ailments, a recent kind of therapy, which goes by the name Dialectical Behavioral Therapy has grown in recent use as a method of treatment. Borrowing from various schools of thought in psychology as well as some Eastern philosophies, DBT therapy aims to help give those with particular issues ranging from a desire to engage in self-harm to emotions of low social esteem amongst others. Modern DBT therapy is executed in two parts: the first which consists of a private meeting of the client and their dialectical behavioral therapist, and the next which consists of a group session.
The adoption of group therapy shows the growing acceptance and recognition by people within the field of psychotherapy of its advantages and broad applications. Group sessions have been discovered to provide better comfort for people as well as emotional stamina, with its provision of activities that nurture the improvement and growth of individual personal and social skills. Clients are also shown how to better react to periods of emotional unrest or trauma through ways that are more rational during these sessions. The support of the presence of fellow participants within the group therapy session is like a vital contributing factor to the positive success rate found amongst clients who finish the course of DBT therapy. This is because knowing that your experience is not a singular case that is unshared by other people can greatly aid personal motivation.
Even though some DBT therapist choose to engage only of the use of the two components in DBT treatment, countless studies have shown that improved chances of success with the patient is achieved when both stages are used alongside each other. By using the direct effectiveness behind the technique of DBT therapy alongside the other advantages that is found in group therapy, professionals are able to achieve better positive results and improvement with patients.

How Often Can You Use the EMS System on the Same Muscle Groups?
EMS, or Electrical Muscle Stimulation is a type of fitness enhancement device that involves using a low-level electric current to cause muscles to contract, helping them improve in strength and appearance. Electrical Muscle Stimulation originated in Soviet Russia in the 1950's as a way of increasing athletes' physical strength and muscle tone. Its creator was Dr. Y. Kots of the Central Institute of Physical Culture in the former USSR. Dr. Kots introduced Electrical Muscle Stimulation to the rest of the world when he presented a paper about his discovery at Concordia University in Montreal. There, he outlined the tremendous potential for using Electrical Muscle Stimulation as strength enhancer.
As early as the 1970s, EMS was used in the United States, primarily as a means of rehabilitating injured muscles. It was used in hospitals and rehabilitation clinics, but was fairly rare and unknown by the public. EMS' effectiveness as a muscle builder (compared with conventional exercise) was as a source of debate, and is still being discussed today. Many researchers still doubt Electrical Muscle Stimulations' effectiveness, especially when it is compared to the claims used in marketing EMS to the public. However, many researchers and fitness professionals will attest to EMS' effectiveness.
Eventually, the use of EMS spread to pro athletes, college sports teams, bodybuilders and fitness enthusiasts as a way of augmenting an exercise program. Currently, Electrical Muscle Stimulation machines are also marketed toward sedentary, non-athletes as way for them to exercise without moving - a source of much discussion and argument.
Many manufacturers claim that their machines will cause people to lose fat and get in shape without a real exercise programs. While EMS machines can in fact increase muscle tone, these claims are largely false. Because EMS is a passive exercise, it doesn't burn calories or fat. To lose weight, a person must commit to a more meaningful, conventional exercise program.
But, as many coaches and professional trainers will attest, EMS does have its uses and can help athletes reach their potential. People who do purchase and use EMS machines might wonder how often they can use the machines on the same muscle groups. Since EMS involves using electrical current, people might be concerned about over-using it.
Most manufacturers of EMS machines recommend using the machines on one muscle group at a time, alternating muscle groups every day. Some machines allow you to stimulate two muscle groups at a time, which is fine as long as they're not antagonistic muscle groups. Using EMS on antagonistic muscle groups at the same time is highly dangerous and should be avoided.
Because EMS machines use a very low level electronic current, you don't have to worry about over-using them and 'burning' your muscle.
If you decided to purchase an EMS system as a supplement to your current workout program or as a first step toward fitness, be sure you're buying a quality product. Check consumer literature; consult quality fitness books, magazines and websites. If you can, consult a fitness professional such as a trainer, and have professional help as you move along your journey to your strongest physical self.

Should I be nervous about joining a running group when I'm out of shape?
I used to run at least 3 miles every other day, when one day I just stopped. It's been about 4 months since I've even exercised seriously. I really miss running and think if I join this local group I'll not only be motivated, but meet some cool people along the way.
I can't help being nervous though because I've never been a part of a running group or club. Any advice?
As long as they offer to let you run with them you should do it. I wouldn't be nervous about it, I would be excited. You know you may not be in very good shape right now, but you'll get a lot better with these people helping you and it will be fun hanging out with them.
I kind of did a similar thing myself this summer. My school didn't have summer practices so I went and ran with a different school(the coach has won tons of State titles in cross country, so he knows his stuff). I didn't really know anyone at first and they had some really good runners who worked out with them... but over time I got to know everyone and I even got nearly as fast as their fastest guy. I actually like them better than the people at my school now lol.
So yeah nothing to be worried about, I think you'll enjoy it(just do your best on the running, it will get easier the longer you stick with it).
