The best home made camper van conversions are better than those one can buy professionally. With every luxury you could imagine, but they always cost a lot to build. However, I have seen excellent budget home conversions completed in a weekend, comprising of a futon in the back of the van, some simple furniture secured to the walls, curtains, a little carpet and a camping stove for cooking.

The first phase is to consider carefully what you will use the vehicle for, and who will use it. If you are going to occasionally go to beaches, lakes and parks and simply sleep in the vehicle you should buy a small van and keep the fittings simple. If you are going to use the vehicle for sports such as surfing or kayaking then you need to factor in storage for your equipment. If you have 5 children when obviously sleeping and seating quarters are you first priority. Choose which length of vehicle and what height suits you best. Short vehicles are easy to drive and park, but longer ones offer more space. Lower vehicles are more fuel efficient and can pass under most height restrictions, but you wont be able to stand in them. High top vans allow almost anyone to stand in them.

The second phase is to buy the base vehicle. A panel van, such as those used for deliveries are the best vehicles for most people. In Europe vehicles such as Mercedes Sprinters, Ford Transits and Fiat Ducatos are some of the best vehicles. Good Japanese vehicles include the Toyota Hiace. Larger vehicles, such as those with box backs are good for those needing more room. Smaller vans are good for solo travelers.

The third phase is to plan the internal fixtures. Things to consider are how much seating you need, how many beds are require, whether you want to be able to cook inside, whether you need to store large items like sporting gear or bicycles. Once you have agreed on the plan you need to start collecting materials and constructing the internal fixtures.

Items such as electrical wiring, wall insulation, wall panels, ceiling materials, flooring, seating and storage all need to be prepared in the correct order, otherwise disaster can raise its head.

Volkswagen Rabbit Named Best Family Car

Being the first successful replacement for the iconic Volkswagen Beetle, the Rabbit already has an impressive resume. It is now the best selling model from Europe’s largest car manufacturer and the Volkswagen Rabbit, also called Volkswagen Golf, is the third best selling nameplate of all time, overtaking its predecessor, the Beetle.

And recently, the Rabbit’s list of accomplishment will include being named the “Best Family Car” by Canadian television show Motoring 2007. The distinction was given to the Volkswagen Rabbit for the “Under $30,000” segment.

John White, the Executive Vice President of Volkswagen Canada, is clearly ecstatic with the award given to the Rabbit. “We are thrilled and honored by the success that the new Rabbit has encountered from the Canadian consumers and media alike,” said White. The Rabbit was launched in Canada in June last year. Since that time, the Rabbit has received awards from Canadian groups, motoring publications, and media outlets. Positive reviews have also been given by auto journalists to the Rabbit, known as the Golf outside North America.

The Rabbit is popular among car buyers because of its many likeable characteristics like sporty suspension setting. While it may not be as stiff as sports car, it provides a good stability and cornering is not a problem even at high speeds. Although having a stiff suspension, the ride is still quite comfortable. One of the most notable characteristic of the Rabbit is that it is a small car yet is engineered to make you feel once you are inside that you are not actually in a small car.

The Rabbit is really a small car; this makes the Rabbit an ideal city car. With congested city streets and parking lots, the small Rabbit is flexible in the way that an SUV is flexible in terms of seating. My car is falling apart!?

I have a 2000 Volkswagen new beetle, we bought it used a few years ago. Lately parts of my car have been falling off, like the side panels of my center console and the window button on the passenger side (the window still works but i have to control it from the driver's side) and the button cover on the emergency break (it still works thankfully). I've thought of super-gluing some of the immobile parts back on but i'm not sure if that's the best thing for my car. I'm on a low budget so what can i do? Any ideas?

Yes, they really tend to fall apart after 70,000 miles..A friend of mine that works for VW said don,t buy one.Ar least with 70,000 or more...Sorry..Yes super glue may work,you can also use double sided tape...Fix it then sell it before it falls apart!!
