is it normal if my bmw losses compression when i take the oil cap out?

i have a bmw 325i, 2003, and when i take out the oil cap ( while the engine is on )

it losses compression and trows a lot of air out through the cap.

I have 2 mechanic cousins, one says that there might be a serious problem with the engine, he says that the cylenders might be screwed up and letting the compression loose.

One says that that is how it's supposed to work on bmws and mercedez.

Also, when i take out the oil stick it loses even more compression and almost wants to shutdown.

Is this normal behavior in a bmw engine ?

The inside of the engine is connected to the intake manifold and is under vacuum so that any combustion blow by gases and other fumes are consumed and burned by the engine rather than discharged into the atmosphere. The volume of air and gases that flow from the engine into the manifold is low as the engine is sealed for the most part. Removing the oil cap unseals the engine and lets a lot of un-metered air into the intake manifold, causing poor running. It is perfectly normal and if your mechanic does not know this, find another.
