Oil Filter Press
Filter Presses are used to filter the extracted oil from all kinds of impure substances. They are used for clarification of oil as well as collection of solids or precipitates. Filter presses are used to filter and purify all types of liquids from impurities. Filtered oil is considered to be completely pure and fresh and good for health benefits. After the filtration process of oil is done, refining it is not compulsory. All kinds of oil seeds do not require refining and are known for their edible properties. However, oil that is extracted from cotton seeds require refining or neutralizing. In order to filter the extracted oil from impurities, a special type of equipment is used.
The liquid that has to be filtered is pumped into the press, which then passes through the central hole and fills up the chambers. Filter clothes are present inside the chambers through which the liquid passes through, and the the filtered liquid is collected in a tank. This type of equipment is highly easy to use and can be adjusted as per the user's requirement. Here are some of the detailed specifications of a filter press:
Filter Presses are assembled with different kinds of plates such as:
-
Recessed Plates
-
Membrane Plates
-
CGR Filter Plates
-
Filter Plates / Filter Frames.
Filter Presses also consists of the following parts:
-
Filter Press Frames : This frame is the main unit of a Filter Press equipment. It further consists of a thrust plate, closing plate, and side bars. The side bars are used to support the filter plate, frame, and the closing plate directly.
-
Filter Press Closing Plate : A Filter Press has a manual as well as automatic hydraulic closing.
-
Filter Press Filtering Units : Filtering units of a Filter Press comprises of filter cloth, filter plates, membrane plates, etc.
With the help of these well assembled parts, a Filter Press is able to operate smoothly. During the process of oil filtration, the oil is pumped into every chamber. The solid particles in the extracted oil will be caught in the filter clothes that cover the filter plates. The solid matter will form as filter cakes. The filtered oil is then discharged from the water bibs or by the drain of the filter pipes.
In today's market, a wide assortment of new as well as used Filter Presses are available. These are manufactured by some of the world's best manufacturers of oil milling equipment. Some of the main features of these modern filter presses are as follows:

i rebuilt a chevy 350. has a high volume oil pump. I loose oil press. after warm up?
I own a shop, and build race engines. I have built hundreds of small block Chevrolet engines over the years, and I think this; I don't know if you realize this, but "all" engines drop in oil pressure once the engine gets hot. Depending on what kind of a drop you are talking about dictates the pressure needed. A rule of thumb is about 2 psi per 1,000 rpm's the engine is making, is plenty of pressure. If say (as an example) you have 60 psi at idle when the engine is cold, and when it gets hot is falls off to 25-30 psi, then you got nothing to worry about. An engine that is built loose as in .0015"-.0020", or .0025" will drop pressure when it gets hot because the pressure will blow past the bearings. It would be a good idea to check the pressure with another gage, and at two points in the system. Check close to the oil filter, and again at the furthest point from the pump such as at the top of the engine beside the distributor, or if you can find a port at the front of the engine to tap in to. Cam bearings that are loose can do this as well. If you are using an aftermarket intake, and the distributor is binding and/or not centered up, or shimed up properly, may cause a drop in pressure. If the distributor shaft is too small, and not a snug fit it can blow past the portion where it oils the distributor gear, and do this. A cam bearing that has turned in the block can do this as well. If you have at least 15-20 psi. at the futherest point from the oil pump, then don't worry about it. I have never been a big fan of High Volume Oil Pumps, and the reason is; At high rpm's they can pump the oil pan dry, and spin bearings unless you also have a larger oil pan that has baffels in it to keep the oil to the pick-up screen. Too much pressure also robs horsepower, and causes premature wear of the distributor gear because its what spins the pump to begin with. Try this: Remove the hold down clamp for the distributor, and use a feeler gage to see how much space you have between the distributor an the intake. Use this number, and add about .003"-.005" shim under the distributor, and this will get it up out of a bind situation. Go to:
http://www.jegs.com
and look in the distributor accessory section. You should find a kit made for shiming & centering your distributor. Use a dial indicator, and measure the backlash in the distributor. The ideal figure will be between .005" and .008" backlash. You can use the shims from a feeler gage to sit the distributor housing down on, or the shims from the kit. Bind is the #1 cause for your problem, as it keeps the pump from turning as fast as it should, and may even do damage to the gear itself. I'll bet; if you get the distributor right, the problem will go away.
Glad to help out, Good Luck!!!
New questions arise on dispersant use in oil spill
NEW ORLEANS - BP inched closer to permanently sealing the blown-out oil well in the Gulf of Mexico as environmental officials defended themselves Sunday against assertions they allowed the oil giant liberal use of chemical dispersants whose threat to sea life remains unknown.
