The old anti-freeze will possibly rust and corrode the coolant system of the vehicle if not replaced with time. With interval, the anti-freeze acid content grows and blocks the coolant and radiator passageways damaging the gaskets and water pump. This will make the engine suffer from higher temperatures, leakages and insufficient performance of cooling system. To avoid engine problems including overheating and freeze-ups, changing anti-freeze regularly is an important part of defensive maintenance. It keeps the vehicles performing at its most favorable levels. Tools and Things Needed:

Step-by-Step Directions:
Step 1:
Before starting the task, ensure that the engine is sufficiently cool. Pull the hand brake and open the bonnet.
Step 2:
Take off the radiator cap and check the coolant by rubbing a finger in the anti-freeze mixture. Check if there is any presence oil, rust and foreign matter. If any such presence is found then the cooling system needs to be properly flushed and cleaned.
Step 3:
Inspect the clamps and radiator hoses for any possible leaks. Replace or repair as necessary after the anti-freeze has drained from the system.
Step 4:
The drain valve has to be located under the radiator.
Step 5:
The drain pan has to be placed on the ground under the drain valve of cooling system. Loosen the drain valve and take off the radiator cap.
Step 6:
Give some time for the coolant mixture to drain from system. In case the engine block is fitted with a bleed screw or a cooling drain plug, then the drain pan has to be placed under the plug for taking it out.
Step 7:
When the coolant stops draining from the engine block, remove the drain pan from under the car.
Step 8:
Now, run water through the cooling system by placing a garden hose on the radiator neck. Continue to flow water until clear water is seen coming out from the radiator, engine drain plug and valve.
Step 9:
Allow the water to drain out from the cooling system and then the radiator, engine drain valve and plug have to be tightened.
Step 10:
Use the equal amount of new anti-freeze and clean water to refill the cooling system. Fill the radiator up to the neck.
Step 11:
Now turn on the engine and leave it standing idle for couple of minutes till the thermostat opens. Inspect the coolant level and it should be made sure that it is filled with new coolant mixture (anti-freeze and water) till the 'Full Hot' mark. In case there is no reservoir container in the vehicle, allow the engine to cool down, take off the radiator cap and use the new coolant to fill the system. The level should be almost one inch below the bottom of radiator neck. Keep checking until a correct level is maintained.
Tips and Precautions:
- The anti-freeze has to be replaced after every time period of two years. It is essential for better functioning of engine coolant.
- Any spills of anti-freeze on the body of the car should be immediately wiped cleaned with a clean rag.

Money is tight all around these days. Some folks are wanting to save money wherever possible. One possible way it to learn to change your own oil. Her are some easy instructions for a DIY oil change.
Gather all of the needed tools and supplies. Included in tools are a filter wrench, an adjustable wrench and an oil collection pan. One that allows you to seal the oil inside and take it to recycle is a nice feature. In addition you will need the correct amount and weight of motor oil, the right oil filter and possibly an oil plug gasket. The job is easier done if you have drive up ramps or jack stands. These tools allow you to work safely under your vehicle. Once you have your vehicle secured on the ramps or jack stands under the axle of your vehicle, you are ready to start the oil change.
Sit the oil collection pan under the oil plug in the bottom of the oil pan under your car. Use your adjustable wrench to remove the oil plug. Move the collection pan as necessary to collect the used oil.
Remove the oil filter. You may need to use the filter wrench. Allow the oil to drain out of the filter into the collection pan.
Pour a few drops of clean motor oil onto the rubber gasket of the new filter. This filter should screw back onto your vehicle. Do not over tighten the filter on the vehicle, follow the directions.
After the oil stops dripping, remove the collection pan from underneath the vehicle and seal to take for recycling. Inspect the oil plug gasket and replace if necessary. Replace the oil plug into the oil pan.
Fill the crankcase with using the recommended type and weight of oil. Do not over fill the crankcase. Start the vehicle and check for leaks. The oil pressure light may stay on for about a minute, but should go off after that. If it does not go off turn off your engine. After the light goes off, check for leaks and tighten parts as necessary. Remove your vehicle from the ramps or jack stands.
Park your vehicle on level ground and turn off the ignition. Give the oil some time to drain back into the oil pan and check, using the dipstick, the level of oil in the engine. If it is low, add enough to bring it to the full level.
While under the hood, be sure that you check other fluid levels as well. If anything is low, bring it back to the full level using the approved fluids for your vehicle. If winter is approaching check to see that you have the correct concentration of coolant in the engine to protect from freezing.

What can I do to get a stripped oil pan plug off?
I was trying to unscrew the oil pan plug in my car to change the oil. I ended up stripping the damn thing. How can I get it off?
um u sure ur turning it the right direction?....its counter clockwise...or to the left.....
put to get it off use a air gun...or vise-grips...or take a dremel tool and cut a slot in it so u can use a flat head screw driver.....
but when u get it off ur gonna have to b careful u didnt strip the pan....
jsut for referens most GMs take 18 ft pounds of torque on the drain plugs
sum fords only 10....hondas around 18-22....and jsut for reference u can put up to 100 ft pound of torque with just a wrench....most ppl over tighten the drain plug wich is wat leads to it stripping in the first place...good luck
