You can purchase oil from your local automotive store. They usually have them on special, 5 quarts of oil and an oil filter anywhere from twelve to fifteen dollars but this does also require some tools and equipment. But with the right tools and equipment, you will be a professional at changing the oil for your vehicles. You will need, a jack, jack stands, socket set, oil bucket (to hold the oil), and a rag in case you get a little dirty. First you will need to jack up the vehicle. Put the jack stands on each end of the car just underneath the driver and passenger doors. There should be a little notch where to put the jack stands. These are in case the jack wants to fail for any reason. If you would like to, you can lower the vehicle on the jack stands to make life a little easier. Now that you have the vehicle jacked up, you need to get under the vehicle and look for the oil pan. Now that you have located the oil pan, you will see a drain plug. Every vehicle has one, you just have to find it!
Now you grab your socket set and find the right size socket to use to remove your drain plug. When the right size is found, put the oil bucket under the drain plug. For best results, before letting the oil drain, start the car and let it run for about ten minutes so the oil circulates through the engine and warms up. This is so the oil will drain smoother and faster but be careful not to burn your self because the engine will be hot! Wear proper gloves and a long sleeve shirt if necessary.
Now that the vehicle has been running for at least ten minutes, you can turn the vehicle off. Put the oil bucket under the drain plug and take off the drain plug. Righty tighty, lefty loosey. A little trick i always use! Be careful taking off the drain plug because the oil will come out fast so you have to be quick! After the oil drains, you may screw the drain plug back into place. Now to change the oil filter just unscrew the filter with your hand but be careful not to burn yourself. after that has drained, put the new filter in its place. Jack the vehicle back up and remove the jack stands. Lower the vehicle off of the jacks and remove the jack. On top of the engine you should see a cap that says "oil" on it. Unscrew it and fill the oil with a funnel. After you fill the car with the oil, start the vehicle for about 15-30 seconds then turn the vehicle off. There should be a dipstick near the oil cap. Pull it out, wipe it, put it back in, and pull it out to check it again. If it is at the right level, you are finished. If not then add as needed. Don't forget to record your mileage so you know when to change your oil next!
Is the Oil Change Due? How Often Should I Change Car Oil?
If you are looking for the quick and dirty answer, then it's the first of 3000 miles or 3 months. But on any given day, you can ask ten people and may get at least 2 different answers. The answer variation lead me to conduct an extensive, detailed research. The research answered explained yet another interesting question. Why would two identical cars experience engine failure at different odometer reading. One runs for 300,000 miles, while others fails before reaching 50,000.
The majority of vehicle manufacturers suggested that passenger car and light truck gasoline engines driven under normal conditions should get an oil change once a year or every 7,500 miles. I went on to find a description for normal driving conditions. One hundred college students were interviewed to determine the description of their own driving. You may stereotype college students driving as sever conditions, but three in four thought their driving is of normal condition, while answering yes to one of the following questions.
Do you encounter frequent short trips during cold weather?
Do you drive in city traffic (stop-and-go traffic)?
Do you drive in dusty condition?
Do you drive on the on the highway during hot weather?
If you answered yes to any of the questions, then you're driving is considered of severe condition. Some so called experts claim that the 3000 miles rule is a myth that oil companies came up with to increase their profits. This maybe true if you are buying a brand new car, and do not plan to keep it for an extended period of time. However, lets look at it from a different perspective. Frying oil. You can use the same oil in the pan for multiple uses. Some people use the same oil 10 times, and some others are not willing to use it more than 2 times.
However, you would notice the change in color, and the thickness of the oil over multiple uses. The same applies to car oil, the more miles you drive on it, blowby increases. This results in more unburned fuel into the crankcase, eventually diluting the oil. The cause a break down in the oil purity, which means more tear and wear on your engine, and an accelerated engine problems. The wear will result in loss of performance, lower fuel economy, increased emissions and oil consumption.
Therefore, for maximum protection to your investment you should change the oil every 3,000 miles or three months.Visit my website if you are looking for used cars in houston area

Is the city liable?? NEED some advice?
Well I was driving on a road right next to a freeway and street divider on passengers side and on driver's side was on coming traffic both one lane streets of 45 miles per hour. It was dark and in the middle of the road actually was big enough that it took up almost all of the road was a big block of the freeway divider. by the time it was visible i was going to fast to even stop and miss it which was the speed limit. and it was either hit it or go into on coming traffic. I have liabilty insurance and i dont think the will cover it. It tore the oil pan right off from under my car and lots of other things to the underneath of the vehicle totaling 1200.00 dollars in damage any advise
A broken piece of the divider was in the road and you ran it over? Nope, that is a just a road hazard, like a pot hole. Highly doubtful you can get the city to pay for the repairs to the vehicle.
