Semi-submersible platforms, jack-up platforms, drillships, floating production systems, tension-leg platforms, and spar platforms are some other common types of oil rigs.

Leaves filter the air we breathe by removing dust and other particulates. Rain then washes the pollutants to the ground. In this process, leaves also absorb other air pollutants—such as ozone, carbon monoxide, and sulfur dioxide—and give off oxygen.

In our war on "man made" global warming and our desire to become less dependent on foreign oil, doesn't this seem to be contradictory?

In a sense yes. There are some ways to help overcome this though. Why not build solar plants or place windmills on top of buildings? Skyscrapers have acres of window, replace a few of them with solar panels... true it won't be the most efficient use of them, but every little bit would help. A prominent Democrat halted the building of a windfarm off the coast because it would "spoil the view" we need to get away from the NIMBY mindset and focus on real solutions.
