Have you ever lost your car keys?
Modern cars use a hi tech engine immobilizer system to ensure that your car cant be stolen. Your keys have a tiny chip with a little Ariel embedded in the plastic. The chip is a part of a transponder system used to check that the correct key is inserted in the lock. The car sends out a signal to the chip, Transmits. Then the chip will use the data it receives to do a computation and it will send back a signal to the car computer, Respond. Pretty simply if the signal the car receives is correct all will be good and the car will start. If the wrong signal is received then it wont start. The transponder system is the key to turn on electrical systems in the car. They include Power to the coil, power to the fuel system, and powering the cars' engine management systems. Cars with transponder systems include Toyota, Ford, GM, Holden, Kia, Hyundai, Nissan, Mercedes, Audi, VW, BMW, Honda, Land-rover, Lexus, Mazda, Peugeot, Proton, Saab, Chrysler, Kia, Subaru, Volvo, Mitsubishi, Porsche, Suzuki, Chevrolet and more. If you ever have lost your car keys then you can be in a lot of trouble. Car dealers can cost many thousands of dollars to replace lost keys as they have to replace all the locks in the car as well as ECU's and other components and computers in the car.
With the second hand car market these days it can cost more then the cars value to just get a key replaced. Locksmiths use to have a quite simple job to make keys to cars. They would just find a code number on a door lock or disassemble a lock and cut a key to the car. It was pretty simple, before transponders were installed. So what does a locksmith do these days? Well with the implementation of transponder systems into cars there has emerged a new niche in the locksmith industry. An automotive locksmith has had to adapt to transponder technology and learn to out smart modern cars. What they have been able to do is to learn how to reprogram the car computers or to set them back to a factory state to be able to accept a new transponder key.
In many cases they can actually reprogram cars which the car dealers can not or do not know how to. Most cars now days can be reprogrammed through the diagnostics port in the car. So there is no need to dismantle hard to get to car components. The aftermarket key manufacturers have also been getting smart and they have been working on reproducing the transponder keys. One manufacturer is called Silca. In many cases they have the keys available before the new model car is in the market place. So the automotive locksmith these days who specializes in transponder key work such as autokeys.net.au is in a good position to help people when they lose their keys. There is usually no need to call a tow truck as most locksmiths doing automotive work are mobile and able to come to you to make a key. They are usually cheap and efficient and the time to make the key is usually under 1 hour.

Saab Now Included in Gm’s Mobility Program
General Motors has recently announced the addition of the entire line of Saab vehicles into their GM Mobility program. Under this program any customer who purchase or lease any new 2007 or 2008 MY Saab vehicle and then equip it with or install eligible adaptive mobility equipment will be able to obtain a combination of financial assistance plus protection and convenience of OnStar.
Aside from Saab (producer of high quality Saab oil filter), the other GM brands such as Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet, GMC, Hummer, Pontiac, and Saturn are also part of the program. The GM Mobility Program was started in the year 1991 with the objective of assisting people with disabilities especially when it comes to their transportation needs.
Under the said program, General Motors will reimburse up to $1,000 to customers who buy or lease new GM vehicles and equipped it with one or more of its 35 eligible aftermarket mobility equipment modifications like hand controls, scooter hoists, ONStar TTY equipment or wheelchair lifts. Aside from the reimbursement on OnStar-equipped vehicles, cutomers will also received an additional two years of standard OnStar service since the first year of OnStar service is offered as part of the all new OnStar-equipped GM vehicles---GM mobility customers get a total of three years of free OnStar service with their purchase.
According to John Gaydash, Director of Marketing for GM Fleet and Commercial Operations, "Saab has hundreds of thousands of loyal owners – and now family caregivers, seniors, and people who have limited mobility can enjoy the safety, technology and performance that are hallmarks of Saab vehicles. We can’t think of a better way to help celebrate October as Disability Awareness Month than to add Saab to the GM Mobility program."
With the OnStar, offered on more than 50 GM vehicles including Saab models, subscribers will now be able to obtain direct access to security and safety features like for instance the 24-hour emergency assistance, remote door unlock, stolen vehicle location assistance and Hands-Free Calling which enables drivers to make and receive hands-free voice activated calls through a nationwide cellular network.
New Models to Boost Saab Sales
Saab top brass believe that the introduction of new models will help boost the company’s sales for the next four years. According to UK managing director Jonathan Nash the new models would help to double the number of sales obtain in the UK by 2011 with the company obtaining around 28,000 cars last year.
Marketing boss David Pugh and UK managing director Nash said that instead of concentrating on the models that are already in the pipeline they would focus on the gaps in the Saab range. To start off, a compact 4x4 that would rival the likes of Land Rover Freelander and Honda CR-V is being considered.
And according to company insiders that the planned compact 4x4 will be called the 9-4X and would be based on the same platform as the Antara or Captiva 4x4s from sister manufacturers Vauxhall and Chevrolet. The 9-4X compact 4x4 is scheduled to go on sale this year.

1997 Chevrolet blazer question?
The oil lines serving the remote oil filter on my 1997 Chevrolet S-10 Blazer are leaking. It has 4 wheel drive and automatic transmission I am considering changing it myself .I need to know if engine has to be lifted in order to remove/replace the lines. It looks like very limited clearance for removing the line after unbolting from the oil filter adaptor and sliding it out. Thanks for your attention.
Go to the Chevy dealer & get the replacement hoses. The hoses on my Merc look like they're threaded into the block, but actually they are held in with one rather small screw in the metal spreader that's attached to both hoses. It's a lot easier then it looked...
