Checking your transmission fluid level can save you costly repairs to your transmission. Most cars should have their transmission fluid levels checked with the engine warm.
Transmission fluid should be checked at the transmission fluid dipstick. If you cannot locate this dipstick, consult your owner's manual. Withdraw the dipstick, wipe it clean with a lint free rag, re-insert it and examine the fluid level. It should be within the range specified on the stick and the color should be red, not brown. If the fluid is brown, check your owner's manual for the correct procedure as you may need to replace the fluid. Some cars require the fluid be replaced every 30,000 to 50,000 miles, others never.
If the fluid is simply low, then it is time to add more fluid. Make sure that you use the correct fluid for your car, as using the wrong kind of fluid can destroy your transmission. Also be careful when handling transmission fluid, as it is extremely toxic. Consult the fluid container for poison control guidelines.
To add transmission fluid to your car, use the transmission fluid fill tube. If you cannot locate the transmission fluid fill tube, consult your owner's manual. Add a very small amount at a time in order to allow the fluid to percolate down into the car, and then recheck the fluid level. Take care not to overfill the transmission as this can cause damage. When the fluid level is acceptable again, store any leftover transmission fluid in a safe place and enjoy your automobile.

How to Change your Engine Oil
Changing your engine oil is one of those easy little car maintenance projects that you can do yourself, without getting any help.
When checking the oil. Make sure you haven't driven the car in the last hour. The car needs to be cool for your safety. Make sure that the car is on a level surface so that the oil sits levelly, and open the bonnet. Prop it up on the latch so that its safe and secure for the job in hand.
Locate the dip stick, which is the long piece of metal sticking out of the engine. It is normally labelled ‘oil'. Remove it, and wipe it on an old rag so it is completely clean. Replace it into the engine, ands make sure that it as gone all the way back in. Pull the dipstick out again, but be careful to make sure that you don't touch the sides of the tube it's housed in as you do so. There should be two lines on the stick, one marked ‘min' and the other marked ‘max'. The oil level should sit somewhere between the two. If it is low, then add a little more oil to your car. Remember to put the dip stick back.
To add more oil, remove the filler cap. This sits on top of the engine and is normally red, yellow or black. Place a funnel in, and pour a little oil in at a time, as it's very easy to misjudge and put too much in.
When you are satisfied that you have done this all properly, make sure that all the caps are back where you found them.
By doing this process yourself, you should save yourself money. You may also be able to save some pennies by buying going online for your Cheap Car Insurance policies are readily available and could save you a fortune!
