Any fuel made to drive a diesel engine is called diesel fuel. Most people are familiar with petrodiesel, and don't even bother to add the prefix. But advances in physical and chemical biomass conversion and processing have made the term biodiesel a term that may not yet be commonplace but has probably been heard by most adults in developed nations. The usual sources for biodiesel are oils and fats, which are mixed with a solution of methanol that contains sodium hydroxide (lye, an extremely caustic substance). Amazingly, the eponymous Rudolf Diesel demonstrated biodiesel at the 1900 Paris World Exposition using an engine that ran on peanut oil. Gasoline engines rely on a spark to fire, and can be quite finicky about fuel, but diesel engines depend on high cylinder compression to heat and ignite the air/fuel mix, so many modern diesel engines can run on 100 percent biodiesel and others can run on petro-bio mixes. That's good news for the air: according to the Department of Energy, pure biodiesel emits 75 percent less CO2 than petrodiesel, and mixes by anywhere between 75 and 15 percent.
There are many potential biomass sources for making biodiesel. For example, the Industrial Agricultural Products Center, which is part of the University of Nebraska at Lincoln, recognized that its home state leads the nation in commercial cattle slaughter. That process yields not only the steaks and burgers in your grocery store but also 1 billion pounds a year of tallow. Accordingly, the IAPC has developed a biodiesel that makes use of this largely unused material.
Food industry giant Perdue Incorporated (the chicken people) actually formed a BioEnergy group dedicated to biofuels. Oddly enough, Perdue is the twelfth-largest grain company in the United States and has three soybean crushing plants and a deepwater port, so the company works with biodiesel and ethanol producers to make feedstock (any raw material fed into an industrial process in this case, for generating power).
Another food industry heavyweight, Tyson Foods, produces more leftover animal fat (from chickens, cattle, and hogs) than any other company in the U.S. The company recently announced a renewable energy division of its own to put to use the 2.3 billions pounds of chicken fat they create each year. That could make around 300 million gallons of pure biodiesel, or go into the most popular petro-bio mix, a B20 fuel 80 percent petrodiesel, and 20 percent biodiesel. Americans use almost 40 billion gallons of diesel a year.
Biodiesel currently has a good news/bad news story. The good news is that it exists, it works, and it's getting easier: in 2000 there were 88 plants in the U.S. producing 250 million gallons of biodiesel. The bad news is that most of the biodiesel (and other biofuels) comes not from industry leftover but from energy crops such as soybeans, which require significant farm acreage that could otherwise be used to produce vegetables and grains for human consumption.
The Defense Energy Support Center, which handles securing fuel for the Depart of Defense, is the single-largest consumer in the U.S. of biodiesel (5.2 million gallons in 2003-2004; more recent figures are unavailable). The U.S. began using B20 in its non-tactical vehicles in 2003. The military consumes between 120 and 145 million barrels of oil in a single year; according to the Department of Defense, every $10 increase in the price per barrel of oil means another $1.3 billion the military needs to keep its fleets operational.

Targeting East African Expansion
After a merger or acquisition, it can be tough for a company to get back on its feet. Changes in management styles and differing corporate cultures can slow production and create tension.
But newly acquired Nova Energy, Inc isn't letting any of those things stop them. With a new CEO at the controls, the Carson City, NV based exploration-stage oil and gas recovery company has big goals. The company plans to follow several lines of business in the growing East African economy, beginning in Kenya. In fact, Nova has already started several initiatives in the region, including forays into the technology, utility, housing and health products industries.
Strong Leadership, Big plans
Although he was just appointed on February 9, Nova Energy's new CEO, retired Major General and former Chairman of the Dallas Federal Reserve Hugh G. Robinson, has already installed a new business strategy. In addition to plans to eventually change the firm's name, Robinson hopes to expand and improve the company's current East African market.
In the technology sector, he plans to acquire a Kenyan systems integration firm to provide a base of operations locally, and in the utilities market negotiations are already underway to support a wireless meter reading pilot solution for local authority. In the health sector, the company hopes to acquire manufacturing capability, including a nearly completed plant.
Nova Energy also plans to tap into Kenya's growing housing market. The country is expected to need 50,000 new homes a year, and Nova has negotiations in place to build affordable singe family homes as well as provide financing.
"I anticipate 2010 will be a foundation building year for Nova Energy in Africa. I am confident that Nova will complete two to three acquisitions this year and report meaningful revenue, demonstrating the long-term potential of Nova. I have every expectation that Nova's business operations will expand rapidly and extend well beyond Kenya," said Robinson in a letter to shareholders.
And with such grand plans on the horizon, there is no better man to have at the helm than Robinson. In addition to his distinguished career in the United States Army and his position as Chairman of the Dallas Federal Reserve, Robinson also served as President Lyndon Johnson's military aide de camp and has extensive executive management experience having held senior positions at Southland Corporation and City Place Development Corporation.
A graduate of West Point with a Masters Degree in Civil Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Robinson is also on the board of Carmax, Inc., the LBJ Foundation and the Better Business Bureau in addition to his role as CEO of Nova Energy.
Key Partnerships
In conjunction with Robinson's appointment as CEO, Nova also became part of the NewMarket Technology, Inc. Greenfield Partnership Program. NewMarket provides systems integration, technology infrastructure services and emerging technology worldwide and uses its Greenfield Partnership Program to speed up the introduction of new technologies into emerging markets around the world. This makes Nova a perfect partnership.
"NewMarket has been working for the past two years to prepare for operations in East Africa," said Robinson, currently a member of the NewMarket board. "I have had the opportunity to meet personally with the local government in Nairobi. The first project opportunities are already signed under letters of intent."
"I have met with investors prepared to finance our first project opportunities, and Nova's updated and expanded business plan is the home that has been established for these first project opportunities. Within the NewMarket Greenfield Partnership Program and with NewMarket's two years of preparation work, Nova is staged for rapid changes and developments," he stated.
With so many exciting operations coming up, Nova and NewMarket are utilizing diverse marketing strategies to get news about their updated business strategy to the investing community. The company recently hosted a webcast which detailed Robinson's appointment and the new business strategy.
The company has also announced that its profile is available on the New York Times website. "One issue we have unexpectedly faced is recognition by the various brokerage systems that the Company is fully-reporting and listed on the OTCBB. I believe being acknowledgement by well-recognized financial sites such as the New York Times website that the Company is an OTCBB quoted security will help to overcome this issue," said Robinson.

how to raise engine (305 v8) in a 76 nova?
my 1st car, took off the oil pan, but it wont come out. i dont need to take the engine completely out, just raise it a little to remove the oil pan. cant really find good places to mount the hoist to..any ideas???
Because of clearance, you will find it necessary to remove the hood, distributor and unfasten the exhaust flanges. Attach an engine sling or chain across the engine, usually on the intake manifold, remove a front and rear bolt and attach it there. Use longer bolts to attach the chain, then raise the engine. Carefully. Make sure the chain does not put pressure against the carburetor or it will be damaged.
Actually if you are working on the crankshaft or oil pump you are best off just pulling the engine out so you can examine the condition of rest of the engine.
Now is the time to slap in the 350 (5.7L) with a 4bbl. ![]()
lol
I suggest removing the distributor so it doesn't get damaged in the process (it gets bent against the firewall). The distributor shaft advance plate is probably seized anyway.
Best from July 19
