The Nissan Middle East and Alhamrani United Company, the exclusive dealer of Nissan in the Saudi Arabia earlier supported the Janadriyah Festival, which is scheduled to happen during the second half of February.
The Janadriyah Festival delivers the richly hued cultural carpet of the territory. It is the country's finest festival that flaunts Saudi Arabia's captivating heritage - from distinct poetry, folk dances, luscious foods and camel races. The popular festival is now spiced up with Nissan's heritage.
Among the many activities and attractions of the Janadriyah Festival, the automaker was allowed to display its product lines that range from high-performing pickups to riveting SUVs. Nissan offered its vehicles for test drives on the festival's track, which was especially designed for that purpose.
Nissan's heritage could be felt in Janadriya's halls, outdoor activities and even in the camel race track. Aside from the on-road and off-road test drive, the presence of the automaker was manifest in various forms that include the majlis, a heritage gallery, lineup displays and several interactive activities for adults and children alike.
But the main attraction of the automaker's participation in the festival was the test drive activity. The 90 X 90 square meter special track accommodated five pickups that were supervised by specialized marshals. How exciting and warm was the activity? Well, more than 3000 test drives were conducted through the whole duration of the festival so as to satisfy the craving of those interested for real Nissan adventure. Basically, the test drive was aimed at demonstrating the stance and power of Nissan's next-generation vehicles.
Khalid Abdullah Al Harthy, the Marketing Communication Director of the Alhamrani United Company, pointed to a positive partnership with one of the most sought-after events in Saudi Arabia and the Gulf Region equally. "Covering a gross exhibition of over 800 square meters, the heritage-like designed stand displayed the Saudis-most devoted to desert-akin 2007 vehicles such as Armada, Murano, Patrol, Pathfinder, and Pickups," he said.
The Nissan Armada, which shares same F-Alpha platform with the Titan pickup, Xterra SUV, Frontier pickup and the Pathfinder SUV, is built in Canton, Mississippi. It features a V8 engine complemented by 5-speed automatic transmission. The SUV boasts a towing capacity of 9,100 lbs.
The Nissan Murano, a midsize crossover SUV, slots between the Xterra and the Pathfinder as the automaker's top SUV until the launch of the Armada. The Murano is Nissan's only CUV using the compact X-Trail and front-wheel drive features. To match the elegant Nissan headlight bulb, the CUV received some modifications in its LED tail lamps.
The Nissan Patrol, a four-wheel-drive vehicle from the automaker, is said to be entertaining a replacement. The said replacement is set to be introduced this year.
The 2008 Pathfinder, which received a facelift, was also given the powerful V8 that is capable of generating more than 300 horsepower to deliver a 7,000 lbs towing performance. The new vehicle also features sophisticated auto technology that covers new Navigation System with 9.3-gigabyte Music Box hard drive, Intelligent Key, Bluetooth hands-free phone system and other fascinating features.
"We are very pleased with our partnership with the National Guard in this cultural festival, where Nissan was able to pay tribute to the community and enjoy its belonging and heritage in the Kingdom. We look forward to extending this partnership into long lasting activities aiming to entertain and educate the people on safe driving," concluded Al Harthy.

775 Nissan Workers Take Buyout Offers at 2 Tennessee Plants
The Nissan North America, Inc. earlier announced the successful results of its Voluntary Transition Program, which is aimed at increasing the efficiency of the company’s powertrain and product lines’ manufacturing operations in Smyrna and in Decherd, Tennessee.
The automaker said that 775 of its total number of employees accepted buyouts at two of its factories in Tennessee. At the Smyrna factory, 681 employees decided to accept buyouts. At Decherd, there are 94 workers who decided to take advantage of the program. Retirements accounted for 303 of the combined numbers.
The voluntary offers, which include a $45,000 lump-sum payment plus $500 for each year of service and retirement benefits in some cases, were made last month to 6,200 production and maintenance technicians. When the company announced the offer, the automaker said that it expected at least 300 workers to accept because that was the number eligible for retirement.
The Japanese automaker said it offered the buyouts because of higher demand for passenger cars, such as the Altima, combined with lower demand for trucks and sport utility vehicles. That has then resulted in a manufacturing mix less labor-intensive to build and requiring fewer assembly workers.
On February 20, Nissan offered workers the opportunity to separate from the company with a lump sum payment, and for those who qualified, retirement benefits to hourly production and maintenance technicians at the two manufacturing plants.
“This program has resulted in tangible benefits for employees and the company,” said Dan Gaudette, the senior vice president of North American Manufacturing and Supply Chain Management. “Each person is unique, but several employees have already told us the program will allow them to return to school full-time, to start up businesses they have dreamed about or to start enjoying their retirement. It was the right program at the right time.”
The Voluntary Transition Program of the automaker was primarily designed to achieve stability in staffing levels with assembly requirements. The program takes into account production mix and productivity gains. It is only offered to employees at Nissan’s Smyrna and Decherd plants. Employees at other Nissan operations in Tennessee are unaffected.
Nissan spokesman Fred Standish said the company does not have plans at this point to hire more employees for the plants. "The total number is good for us," Standish said. "We can continue producing."
The Smyrna plant is building the Nissan Altima and Maxima, Frontier, Xterra and the Pathfinder vehicles. The plant is responsible for the meticulous integration of auto parts like the Nissan grille, fenders, radiators and car equipments. The Decherd powertrain facility, on the other hand, manufactures all engines for Nissan and Infiniti vehicles built in the United States. Nissan headquarters, which has recently moved from Los Angeles to Nashville, employs 5,200 hourly employees in Smyrna. In Decherd, about 1,000 people work at the company's plant.
The last time the company has downsized its staff in Tennessee was in 1998, when Nissan offered a pension enhancement to hourly employees. Sixty-six out of 146 of those eligible for the offer accepted it.

Which car to buy?
I am planning on buying a new car. I currently drive a 2000 toyota celica which is a small sporty car. I think I'm out grown that style and looking to buy a more grown up car. I am thinking about a Nissan Frontier or Toyota Tacoma truck because it's handy when I have furniture to move and big stuff to haul. OR a normal sadan type car like Honda Accord or Nissan Altima. Which one should I choose? Anybody know which mid-size truck is better?
My sister bout an 04 Tacoma and loves it. I just bought the Matrix 06, it has the celica engine, I love it! It may not haul like a truck, but the seats do lay down and it's a little like a station wagon. I got the XRS model which is a little sportier. The car looks small but it actually has a lot of room for passangers. If you don't go for the truck, hauling would be my only reason for buying one, then think about some of the new fuel efficent cars that are out there. I get 36 mpg and 40 on the highway. It's great and my insurance stayed pretty much the same. Good luck and happy shopping!
