Does weight affect loose engine / transmission mount on Ford Focus?
SEEKING ALL EXPERTS HELP! I took my car (Ford Focus 2001) to the mechanic two weeks ago and he said it needs new engine and transmission mount. Anyway, I was to leave town so I took my car back. I took my car on a short trip (5 miles), and on the way back filled the gas tank half full.
Eversince then, the car not only shakes (due to loose engine mount), but seems slow to respond. Anyway I parked it and left town, and I just got back. I just tried to move it but it scared me, it stopped halfway while pulling off the spot (did not respond to me pressing gas though I can hear the engine), and then when I decided not to move it. I pulled right back into the street spot I'm at.
Now my question is, does the added weight of a half-full fuel tank affect the transmission / engine mount? Also, is it safe to drive it to the mechanic half a mile away or should I have it towed to prevent engine / transmission damage?

ok lets get real....you have been driving this car around with a bad engine mount.....the trans and engine are not going to cause your problem because of flex between the two....
the thought i have is gas......the last time you put fuel in the car is the key.....ethenol breeds water..........put a bottle of rubbing achoal in the tank....that cause the fuel and water to reconstitue and see if that helps.....but surely the bad motor mount is not the cause of your driveabilty concern
