How to I separate a dodge 318 from a 4 speed manual transmission step by step in detail?

I removed all of the components on the front of the engine for clearance. All wires and linkages are removed. I have removed the bolts from the bellhousing to the block. I have removed the motor mount nuts. The engine crane is holding the engine about the mounts. I cannot get the engine to separate from the transmission. It separates to the end of the guide pins and stops there. I shouldn't have to unbolt the clutch assembly from the flywheel, should I? It should stay lined up if left on the motor...
The throwout bearing is definitely moving freely. If indeed it is stuck on the clutch plate itself, what will it take to free it up? I am trying to keep the clutch on the flywheel to keep it in line (it's new). I have wiggled and pried on the engine extensively and cannot get it to move. As of now, it the alignment pins are barely free from the block. I just can't get it to slide off of the input shaft.

what year is the engine, if it has an external clutch fork, remove it through the side of the bellhousing, it sounds like its in a bind, or the throwout bearing is hanging up on the input shaft sleeve on the front of the transmission. yoiu may need to take the pressure plate loose from the flywheel if you cant get it to come apart otherwise, then you can find the real problem.
