Silicone Rubber Gaskets are available in a wide range of shapes and sizes, and have many different applications. These gaskets are widely used in all types of industry and these can include, the engineering industry, the aircraft industry, the building industry and the catering industry, to name just a few. They are very commonly employed between two or more surfaces, where leaks of fluid or air need to be contained. The surfaces are brought together and the silicone rubber gasket is compressed which produces an excellent seal. In the case of silicone O rings where some motion may be required, lubrication is very often achieved by the fluid being sealed.
Because of the properties of the silicone these gaskets can take on many forms such as;
o Mitre cut letter box shape
o Horse shoe shape
o O ring shape
Silicone has very versatile properties due to its ability to resist extreme temperatures, and moisture repelling qualities. It is commonly used in adhesives, sealants, medical applications, cookware, insulation and lubricants. Silicones are polymers which are made from chemical elements and include oxygen, hydrogen and silicon.
Silicone has several useful properties and some of these can include;
o Low toxicity
o Thermal Stability
o Water Repelling
o Good resistance to sunlight and oxygen etc.
o Non-stick
o Good electrical insulation
Silicone gaskets are mechanical seals used to prevent leakage between two surfaces. Gaskets usually require some form of compression, and therefore some degree of yield or some form of de-formation is required by the gasket. Silicone rubber gaskets are ideal for such applications. An O-ring for example is an extremely versatile type of silicone gasket, and is commonly employed in all types of pipe-work and plumbing applications, and will even allow a small amount of motion between the two surfaces whilst efficiently sealing them.
Different types of silicone gaskets can include;
o Silicone gaskets
o Solid silicone gaskets ( commonly used on metal closures)
o Sponge silicone gaskets
o Silicone foam gaskets (closely related to sponge gaskets)
o Injection moulded silicone gaskets
Foam gaskets of the opened cell type can be used for dust seals or shock and vibration gaskets. Closed cell is mainly used for environmental seals.

Cleaning & Polishing Your Vehicles Metal
Properly cleaning & polishing your vehicles metal parts can really help to enhance the overall look of it and is a great way to finish it off after paying attention to the other areas.
Parts of your vehicle that could be polished might include the wheels (or certain areas of them), exhaust tips, trim details & badges, chrome bumpers, grills and under bonnet components like the valve cover, reservoir filler caps, piping and manifolds.
Prior to polishing, metal parts should be thoroughly cleaned like the rest of the vehicle. A diluted all purpose cleaner and a stiff bristled brush can be used for dirtier areas, otherwise a normal car shampoo product should be sufficient. Metal parts also can be clayed if necessary after cleaning to remove any bonded surface contaminants such as road tar and tree sap.
For non-chrome parts a fine wire wool can be used in conjunction with a designated metal polish product to remove any oxidation or staining on the surface. Wire wool should not be used on already highly polished areas as it may introduce fine scratches or hazing and dull the finish.
Any parts that have been rubbed down with wire wool should be wiped off with an older, used micro fibre towel to remove any metal fibres and product residue and should then be re-polished, this time working the product in with a suitable sponge or micro fibre applicator pad and buffing off to a shine with a fresh micro fibre towel.
Chrome or highly polished parts should be polished with a non abrasive designated chrome or fine metal polishing product which should be worked in with a sponge or micro fibre applicator pad and buffed of with a clean soft micro fibre towel. The polishing & buffing process can be repeated a number of times in order to refine the finish further.
Once cleaned and thoroughly polished metal parts should be sealed with an appropriate product in the same way you would wax the paintwork of a vehicle. This may help to add a little more in terms of shine to the finish but the main reason for doing this is to protect it. Once sealed the metal will repel dirt, contaminants will not be able to bond to the surface and water will bead up and run off the surface helping to prevent staining. Sealing after polishing also means that metal parts can easily be brought back to a high standard of shine and finish with just a light clean if regularly maintained.

question for dodge man?
Regarding the valve cover manual I actually got it from autozone.com, and i didnt think it sounded right.There isn't really anything in the way of the valve cover, except one little metal tube.But my main concern was the part where it talked about the fuel pressure.This valve cover thing has been a nightmare.I was told the valve cover was only around 20 to 30 dollars, and come to find out it was 80 due to engine size i guess.Everyone ive talked to said all you have to do is pull the cover off and put new gasket on.Thanks again
if you can see the valve cover i don't think the manual is right on this one ,its been a while since i have done one of these but i don't remember it being that hard to do and i don't remember having tot do all of what it said to do,look at the engine in it and see what all is in the way on it,i think its simpler to do than that,if you need further help i should be around here somewhere,good luck.
