Electrical Problem with a Lincoln Continental '91?

At low idle no battery idiot light shows. Headlights and fan run normal. At higher rev battery idiot light comes on, headlights brighten, fan runs faster, battery does not go dead. Battery does not get hot, alternator gets hot normally with use. Belt does not slip.
Does this sound like a voltage regulator? Is this part of the alternator in this year's model (91)? Any other things to try or ideas?

It sounds like the voltage regulator is allowing too high a voltage when above idle. The easiest way to check this is with a volt meter at the battery. Check the voltage at idle, and again while reving the engine. If the voltage is over 14 you need to replace the voltage regulator.
