In his 19th screen outing, Ian Fleming's superspy is once again caught in the crosshairs of a self-created dilemma: as the longest-running feature-film franchise, James Bond is an annuity his producers want to protect, yet the series' consciously formulaic approach frustrates any real element of surprise beyond the rote application of plot twists or jump cuts to shake up the audience... |

Art enthusiasts have been able to indulge their love for Rolf Harris as his national tour continued last week.
The Australian entertainment legend was at the Whitewall Gallery in Bournemouth on June 11th to promote his 'A Life in Art' exhibition, which featured a number of limited edition Rolf Harris prints.
Rolf's national tour is in celebration of his 80th year and he explained that his longevity and enduring popularity was down to the fact that he genuinely enjoyed his career as an artist and entertainer.
He told the Bournemouth Echo: "I guess it's all down to doing something that you love to do and getting paid to do it."
The next stop on the British tour was Wales where Rolf attended the Blue Dot Gallery in St David's shopping centre in Cardiff.
Rolf has an emotional connection to the country through his Welsh wife Alwen and family ties in Merthyr Tydfil where his father and uncle emigrated from.
The artist revealed that he enjoys meeting art fans who have come from across the United Kingdom to view Rolf Harris prints and learn more about the artwork on display.
He told Wales Online: "You end up going along to these exhibitions and you don't even manage to get round the paintings, there are so many people coming up to you and asking for your autograph and wanting to talk about the work, it's nice."
Rolf's Welsh adventure continued as he followed up the Cardiff event with a date in Swansea at the Ice House where Rolf Harris prints were ranging in value from £55 to £1,295.
Harris said that he thought his exhibitions appealed to people because they included a wide variety of subjects.
He told Wales Online: "You've got brush scenes from Australia, studies from time we spent in South Africa last year, a great quantity of work, and that's more engaging for most people I think. I'll paint anything that catches my attention really."
Rolf will be taking his tour to High Wycombe where he will exhibit at the Whitehall gallery on June 19th.
Gallery manager Lotte Pedersen-Hill told the Bucks Free Press that she was excited to have Rolf Harris prints on display as they have previously moved people to tears.
She said: "The technical composition of his work is amazing. I have seen someone stand and cry at his work because they love it so much."
Tennis fans attending Wimbledon this year will be able to view a Rolf Harris portrait of his ten favourite tournament champions.

L.S. Lowry painting sells for 520,000 pounds
A recent newspaper article illustrates the amazing increase in prices of work by L.S.Lowry. The example below is just one of many recent examples, and we see similar increases of his signed, limited edition prints.
Lowry's industrial landscapes with figures are always known as his forte, and of course command the premium prices. The oil painting titled 'Going to the match was bought six years ago by the Professional Footballers Asociation for almost two million pounds, and it is thought that should it be sold again in today's market a price of six million would not be unreasonable.
'Daisy Nook Fair' broke all records for the sale of work by modern British artists. An article newspaper article quotes "an iconic painting by world-famous Salford artist LS Lowry sold for nearly £3.8 million - becoming the most expensive work by the artist ever."
The 1946 painting 'Good Friday, Daisy Nook', shows a fair at the country park. This painting was part of a collection of five Lowrys sold by a private collector, who had bought it in 1970 for a record £16,800 at the time. The painting is of Daisy Nook in Lancashire in 1946,during a holiday. In 1970 the work was sold for £16,800, a record price for the artist at the time.
Factories, Lancashire, painted in 1947, is a more characteristic of Lowry's work. The industrial townscape, complete with several mills and smoking chimneys, is shown from an aerial view, looking down on the crowds in an objective manner and shows many figures going about their daily business. The painting of a Northern industrial townscape was recently sold for £1,128,800.
Beach and Promenade, painted in 1948, was bought for £546,400. This shows the figures during their recreational activities, and is painted at such an angle to give the impression of a 'bird's eye view.
Many of Lowry's holidays during his childhood were by the sea, he would visit Lytham St. Anne's around April and Rhyl, on the North-West coast, during the summer months. The Mansion, Pendlebury, painted in 1944, was recently sold for £344,800. This was the town in which Lowry had spent many years. The move to Pendlebury in 1909 happened for the family when L.S. Lowry was 22 years old, and he stayed there for nearly 40 years.
The painting of a mansion house illustrates the artist's curiosity with solitude as the isolated building dominates the canvas. A crowd huddling around the front door of the house is clearly visible. Lowry often used to say that where there was trouble , a crowd would usually congregate. Whitehaven , was painted in 1954, and was recently sold for £180,000. It shows a different seaside landscape.
Lowry painted figures isolated in indusrial landscapes. Several people and an animal, standing by the shore, are held by a wall to one side and the sea the other, with the foreboding presence of the large mills that so dominated the area.
'The Thames from Whitehall Court' (22"x26" oil on canvas) by L.S.Lowry, recently sold for £520,000 Although less sought after than his views of the northern industrial heartland, this work made a sizeable return for the vendor whose husband had purchased it in 1987 for £22,000. A ten-fold real-terms increase over the 22year period suggests That Lowry has easily out performed both the FTSE 100 and the property market.

Would you buy this car?
It's a 1997 Subaru Legacy Outback Limited Edition AWD. 168,000 miles. I do live in MN as well. I just had an Engine and Transmission flush done. All new struts and CV joints. Had the exhaust tightened and patched up. The body is in alright condition, it's still shiny and nice, but there is a couple random little dents on it. New fuel filter, and had the fuel system cleaned. Fresh oil change and filter. New Air filter, and brand new tires. An Alignment was done. This was all in the last 2 months. I'm asking $3,500 for it. Would you buy it?
I forgot to mention the little perks of the "Limited Edition". Mint condition heated black leather seats, basically electric everything.
Kelley Blue Book says for your vehicle if based in Minneapolis: private party sale value $4,100, trade-in value at dealership $2,700.
If I were a buyer I would first run a Carfax report on the vehicle history (accidents, floods) to make sure it is alright. Then I would inspect the body for hidden rust in crevices and on the underside (wheel wells, floorboards). If I found issues there I might not buy it or negotiate at least $1,000, possibly $2,000 down. I would also inspect all aggregates, lines and hoses in the engine compartment and the transmission for signs of leakages. Transmission issues can cost the next owner $2,000 - 3,000 so I would either take a pass on the vehicle or again negotiate down by that amount. Motor oil leakages in the wrong places can be costly for the next owner (cylinder head and crankshaft gasket, $800-1,200). I would also listen under the open hood to the sound of the running engine block to evaluate the condition of the valves and camshaft, if they are 'clicketeclack' noisy then there is need for a valve train overhaul (perhaps $1,000). I would also ask to see the invoices of the strut repairs because that would be a big plus.
If you cannot find a buyer you may as well continue to drive your vehicle. At this age it has a much greater personal use value than sale value.
