We all like fun facts, so lets start off with one. Isuzu is really translated to fifty bells. It's originally the name of a river that flows through a region that's dotted with ancient Shinto shrines in Japan. The Isuzu company's roots go all the way back to about 1916 - this was the time when Tokyo Ishikawajima Shipbuilding and Engineering Company had first decided to expand its business; this meant that they were going to start producing cars and just simply include automobile manufacturing.

Around two years later, in 1918, Isuzu decided to forge a technical union with the Wolseley Motor Company; it's a U.K. based motor company. They received the name Isuzu by 1949, after it released its first two model vehicles.

Right after the war, the selling of Isuzu trucks and the Isuzu Hubcaps that went on the trucks went out of the roof; who would've thought. The cars that Isuzu manufactured were essential to the reconstruction effort that Japan was going through. The cars & the Isuzu Wheel Covers that were installed on them were used to transport the clothes, food, and other things that people needed. By 1953, Isuzu had released the Hillman Minx passenger car. The Hillman Minx was somewhat of a long series of average-sized family cars that was produced under the Hillman marque.

When the 1960s rolled around, there were two trends that seemed to take over: the "hippie" fad and the launch of passenger cars. Cars like the Florian and the Bellett seemed to be favored over any other car, as well as some trucks like the WASP model. By 1971, Isuzu decided to start a partnership with General Motors - which wouldn't have been a good idea today because isn't General Motors going through that recession? Anyway, a couple years after the partnership became official, the Gemini was released with OEM Wheels & OE Isuzu Hub Caps on the wheels. The Gemini was the very first car that was released after the pairing.

A decade later, it seemed as if Isuzu had landed on American shores. The Pup, with Factory Isuzu Wheel Covers installed, was a truck and was the first Isuzu model that was released and sold in the U.S. market. The Isuzu Trooper was released three years right after the Pup was released. It was an SUV model that was available in either two- or four-door models - as soon as it came out, it was pretty popular.

Isuzu then entered into something called a "joint venture" with Subaru. This union was what sparked the release of the Isuzu Rodeo and the Isuzu Pickup.

By the time the 1990s rolled around, Isuzu sales were proved to be pretty strong. The main reason why was because a lot of people were buying the Trooper with the OE Isuzu Wheel Covers - by this time, the Trooper had upgraded by having more luxury to it and being offered in a bigger size. The Isuzu Trooper was one of the main models responsible for the immediate popularity SUV's had in that decade.

When the new millennium rolled around, it seemed as if no one wanted the Trooper or the Rodeo anymore. Most people were going after the newer models that had all of the advanced features on them. In 2004, the Rodeo and the Axiom were dropped from the lineup. I guess everything that goes up must eventually come right back down, right?

Twenty Years Of Isuzu: A History Of Excellence

We are the culmination of our experiences, and the same is true for companies. Companies, like people, seem to have a life of their own.

Each new product, each new decision adds to the evolution of a company, creating a legacy of quality or leading to its eventual downfall. Isuzu is one of those companies that have survived, learned its lessons, responded to market demands, and because of its success, we felt it was worthy of rewinding the clock twenty years and taking a look at the past two decades of automotive achievement.

While Isuzu is now known for its high-quality Ascender and tough pickup trucks, it's not surprising that 20 years ago, the company was already on the road to success. In 1988, Isuzu positioned itself as the number one truck maker (medium-duty and heavy-duty trucks) in the world, surpassing Daimler-Benz. With such an incredible output of trucks, it was only a matter of time before the company began to focus on the light-duty truck market.

By 1992, American Isuzu Motors Inc. had something to celebrate. The company retailed its one-millionth unit in the U.S., catering to the growing needs of the sport utility vehicle market in North America.

With the introduction of the famed Isuzu Trooper, the company became the first import manufacturer to offer three segments of SUVs: the mini, the compact, and the full-size.

Two years later in 1994, the Isuzu Rodeo - another popular model - took on competitors at the Alcan 5000 - a 4,133-mile rally from Seattle, Washington ending eight days later in the Arctic Circle. It won, becoming the first SUV to boast that accomplishment. The Rodeo proved its worth again in 1994 when another Rodeo won first place, ensuring it was no surprise when the winner of the 2000 Alcan Winter Rally was, again, a Rodeo.

A year later, in 2001, American Isuzu Motors Inc. introduced the Axiom - a revolutionary blend of performance, comfort, and technology. The Axiom was popular but Isuzu realized that the SUV market was changing and they needed to change with it.

In 2003, Isuzu introduced the Ascender 7-Passenger with more passenger space than Axiom. In addition, the Ascender 7-Passenger was the first Isuzu SUV to boast a V8 engine. While the Ascender 7-Passenger was revered by many as one of the best high-performance SUVs on the market, it wasn't for everyone. City dwellers wanted SUVs that were just as high-quality, but smaller, more fuel-efficient, and more affordable. And thus, the following year, Isuzu came out with the Ascender 5-Passenger - a more compact version of its older brother.

Determined not to compromise the vehicle's versatility, the Ascender 5-Passenger contained Isuzu's most powerful six-cylinder engine ever.

In 2006, Isuzu expanded their offerings to include two new pickups - the i-280 4x2 Extended Cab and the i-350 4x4 Crew Cab. Produced in Shreveport, Louisiana, the pickup trucks are an instant hit, providing customers with class-leading towing and payload capacities. 2006 was a good year for Isuzu. In addition to the new pickup line, Intellichoice recognized Isuzu's entire lineup as the best in their class for low costs.

In 2007, Isuzu improved on its pickup truck line, upgrading both the i-290 and the i-370 with larger engines and increased torque and horsepower. Prices, however, stayed the same as the previous year.

In 2007, Isuzu added two new models to its line: the i-370 4x2 Extended Cab and the i-370 4x2 Crew Cab, giving pickup customers multiple options.

What's Isuzu up to now? Let's just say 2008 promises to be a good year for the company. And why wouldn't it? With a track record like theirs, staying on track seems like the right thing to do.

I don't know if these work, but what engines do you know or at least think would work?

The one it came with. If you ask a question like this, you're the person that has to pay a truckload of money to someone else to do all the work for you. Take your blank check to a reputable performance shop with a list of all your realistic requirements and they'll tell you what can and can't be done on your dollar.

Edit: Don't thumbs down me foo and give wrong information. Eclipse 4g63s and USDM Evo 4g63s are no where near the same motor. They sit opposite directions. They spin opposite directions. They mount with different mounting points. They have different transmissions. You're more likely to put an Evo 4g63 into a 420a Eclipse than a 4g63 Eclipse since their motors atleast sit the same direction.
