Installing a New Timing Belt on a Honda V6?

I have an Acura Legend V6 and I am attempting to install a new timing belt. The Helm manual tells me to first set the #1 piston at TDC by rotating the crankshaft, this also puts #5 at TDC. Then it tells me to set the left camshaft to the TDC mark and then the right camshaft to the TDC mark. With the #1 and #5 at TDC, won't those cylinder's valves get pushed out by the rockers being rocked by the cam lobes while turning the camshaft and thus slam into the fully extended pistons and either disallow me from turning further, or bend the valves?

I know if your timing belt breaks while the engine is running you run a chance of bending the valves and this seems like the exact same problem?

Your concerns are valid if you have an interference engine. Many of the Acura engines were. See the link below. If the belt broke the damage is already done. If you are merely changing the belt just rotate the crank with the old belt still in place until you bring the cams up to TDC. Put it back on temporarily prior to disturbing anything if you have to. Then doublecheck that the crank is also at TDC as it should be. In any event, you will want to rotate the crank through 2 complete rotations by hand after installing the new belt, stopping immediately if you encounter a problem. Pull the plugs so the crank turns easily and there is no mistaking compression for interference.
