Why are my running times so much worse than last year?
I am a distance runner in track. I run the mile and two mile.
This is my second year of track, and I am now a senior in high school.
So, last year my PR (s) where:
the mile: 5:44
the 2 mile: 12:18
But, so far this year, my times have been as follows (in order of the meets):
mile: 5:50 (indoor meet) / 6:14
2 mile: 13:10 / 13:16
And I don't know why. I did cross country, and I did amazing in that. I've also been training all off season, lifting weights 2 times a week, 2 speed workouts a week (ie, stairs, jump rope, hill repeats, etc ...), two long runs a week (about 8-12 miles), and then 4 mile tempo runs.
I'm so frustrated and I don't understand why I can't drop my times (given we've only had two dual meets and one indoor). Did I over train? Is it too early in the season to judge? Can I still get my times down to where they were? UHG!
of course you can get better! almost everyone's times are slower at the beginning of the season and improve as you can closer to the end of the season! good luck!
