Can anyone tell me the proper way to break in a freshly rebuilt engine?
I'm rebuilding a small block chevy 350. Replacing the cam, lifters, pistons, all bearings, piston rings, timing gears, possibly even the rocker arms, and obviously all the gaskets, and valve stem seals. I know there is a break in procedure you must follow, but I've read a few different ones, and I want to know the proper way of doing this, I don't want to mess this up, would be a complete waste of money, and I don't want to have to take the engine out of the car and do it all over again. the motor came from a 1974 Nova, and I don't think it's ever been rebuilt. It has to go back in my Camaro, and I want it to run perfect, thanks!

The best way to break in an engine is to drive it for 500-1000 miles at varying speeds (not constant highway speeds) without "getting on it" or towing. Change the oil and filter and change it again after another 1500 miles. It will be broken in nicely then. Be certain to prime the oil system before you start it by turning the oil pump clockwise until you get oil at the rocker arms (using a long screwdriver shank in a drill works well) before you put the distributor in.
