Dieting Not the Best Option

The other important part of the strategy is to perform a proper exercise program that contains at least 60% strength training exercise. This will allow your body to burn off the excess fat every minute of the day even when you are resting or sleeping.
No other activity will give you this metabolism boost, so forget about long, slow, boring out dated activity that we used to believe would make us lose weight like walking, jogging or cycling This type of activity is as ineffective as dieting for obtaining a strong, lean, healthy, fit body.

Short bursts of all out activity for 10-15 seconds following by 30 seconds to one minute of slower activity. For example 10 seconds of sprinting followed by one minute of walking. The combination of your proper exercise program and your small meal eating plan works with your body not against it as the old ways did. Instead of destroying your metabolism as dieting did the new ways protect it so weight stays lost.

Learning about engines?
I want to fully rebuild and customize my 1969 chevy truck 1/2 ton. I want to turn it into a high performance truck while still keeping it street legal. I also want to take it to Bonneville one day to race it to try to gain access in the 200mph club. I dont like turbos, blowers or NOS, no add-ons. I honestly only know a little about automotive mechanics, but definatly not enough to blueprint an engine, or tell what tranny or rear end to use with that engine, etc., etc. What books and if there are any, dvds, can I get that will teach me what is what and what goes with what to get the best performance? I appreciate any help.
You are setting a goal that is probably impossible. Looking at the frontal area of a modern pickup truck, and it's coefficent of drag, you are talking about a vehicle that would use up nearly 900hp just to simply overcome aerodynamic drag at 200mph! A 1969 truck will have more frontal area and even if you do a massive amount of body work, you will be hoping to match the aerodynamic efficency of the modern truck. So, figure for 200mph you will need somewhere in the neighborhood of 1100-1200hp. And to hit 200mph on a timed run at the Salt Flats or something similar, you will need headroom about that... keeping in mind that upping another 5-10mph will require about 100hp more just to overcome the added drag for that little extra speed. So you are realistically looking at needing 1300-1400hp to reach the goal.
As you wish to bypass any kind of forced induction, you are realistically looking at needing 13.0L + size engine... which brings up the very real question of if such a truck engine could be made to fit in a 1969 pick up? Not to mention that there is the very real possibility that you would still lose traction to the wheels way before 200mph, because the truck would most likely become airborne well before that speed.
So, what does this mean? In short, 200mph in a street legal pickup is very difficult, and without forced induction, impossible. If you were to deal with a non-street legal pickup, you might be able to reduce the frontal area enough, ligthening, and such that you might get by with ONLY 1000hp or so... though if you plan on using the motor in this more than once or twice, you will probably also want to reconsider your dislike of forced induction.
Or you may just want to reconsider the whole thing, and look at your original question and stated goal of learning about engines? How To Rebuild A Small Block Chevy by David Vizard is a commonly available book that might cover alot of the basics you want to learn about... or any similar books that focus on rebuilds and the parts involved (and how to evaluate different parts for different applications).
And if you are then looking at top speed goals, you will probably really need to consider why you are against forced induction or other approaches as well as picking up some books on fluid dynamics. Overcoming aero resistance requires exponentially more power as speed increases, and even approaching 200mph will become a HUGE issue on the aero front, and tuning the dynamics to get the most from the laminar flow while distrupting the turbulent air as little as possible, as well as get a level of engine output that may not be practical outside of your disliked add-ons.
