Mountain bike maintenance can become an obstacle course, if you don't have some basic skills.

Owning a mountain bike - whether you are a serious rider or simply enjoy it as a sport - is an investment in time and money. Protect that investment by learning a few tricks of the trade as far as mountain bike maintenance is concerned.

The first important thing in mountain bike maintenance is very simple: keep your bike clean! Wipe off excess dirt once a week, using a dry cloth or a damp soapy sponge. During wet weather, or with frequent use, it is a good idea to wash your bike after every ride. If you don't do this, you will find that there are a lot of sticky stuff out there that may become unwelcome, permanent fixtures.

Another regular habit you need to adopt as part of mountain bike maintenance, is degreasing the chain and drivetrain. How often you do this depends on how often you ride. It should be done once a month at least, and up to two or three times per month if you ride on a regular basis.

Lubrication of the chain is essential. There are many excellent lubricants on the market. Choose one that suits your needs. Keep in mind that newer lubricants such as White Lightning are self-cleaning, which minimizes mountain bike maintenance.

It is best to apply lubricant the night before you ride. Doing it ten minutes before, prevents it from getting into the chain properly.

As part of mountain bike maintenance, it is vital to maintain the correct air pressure in the tires. Taking care of this small detail will protect your expensive tires. It also prevents frequent tube problems.

Gear cables tend to stretch over time, which makes gear shifting less effective. Gear and brake cables should be checked regularly, and replaced more often than most people realize. New ones should be put in every six to nine months as part of general mountain bike maintenance, and the cable housing should be replaced at the same time.

Another item on you mountain bike maintenance list, is your brake pads. These wear extremely fast. You need to check the alignment of the brake pads against the rims. They should sit squarely on the rim when the brakes are applied.

When relaxed, they should be clear of the sidewall of your tire as it turns. Replace the brake pads when they get to the wear line. Allowing them to go onto the metal casing, will damage your rims.

Check all the nuts and bolts in your monthly mountain bike maintenance routine. Invest in an Allen key or spanner and tighten the loose bolts, such as crank bolts, seatpost bolts, and headset locknuts.

Lastly, one simple way to look after your bike is to keep it under cover, preferably indoors. Don't expose it to the elements any more than necessary.

Be careful when using a bike cover outside. These tend to trap moisture between the cover and the ground, and will cause the steel parts on your bike to corrode more rapidly, giving cause for more mountain bike maintenance than you ever had in mind!

Take good care of your bike and it will take good care of you!

CHAIN LINK FENCE INSTALLATION

Chain Link Fence

Inviting, varied and fanciful - a chain-link fence group can be an excellent action. With the change enclose you can expect life of aegis, seclusion and amount. But as with any investment, it pays to do your preparation. Chain-link fencing comes in a thick chain of qualities, colors, sizes and types. Before you buy, pass a soft measure getting to bed what's currently accessible. That way, you'll get the most evaluate for your money and the far enclose for your needs.

Character tests examine there's a difference

Tests on light-gauge fences were conducted under the protection of the Chain-Link Barrier Manufacturers. They plant that a 75-pound dog and 100-pound juvenile could gravely misconduct or even happening the lightest-gauge fences. In component, the IF conducted a learning of past enclose buyers to take what they awaited from their chain-link fence. It rotated out that once they fully understood their options, 100 proportionality of these buyers would bed chosen a heavier inclose.

How to decide a chain-link fence

Select your chain-link fence artifact supported on these trinity criteria: caliber of accommodate, filler of tangle and write of conserving finishing. Approximate (ga.) or diam of adapt is one of the most alpha factors - it helps tells you how overmuch brace is actually in the fabric. The small the caliber figure, the statesman steel old, the higher the character and the stronger the adapt. From lightest to heaviest, unrefined gauges are 13, 12-1/2, 11-1/2, 11, 9 and 6. Unless you are business a temporary barrier, I would advise fencing between 11-1/2 and 9 approximate. 6 diam is typically for profound industrial or specialized.

Bar the snap

Snap filler tells you how far unconnected the change or diamond cause wires are in the structure. And that's other naming of how much poise is in the quantity. The small the carbon, the author poise is in the cloth. From largest to smallest, regular grab sizes are 2-3/8", 2-1/4" and 2". Smaller meshes much as 1-3/4" for sport courts, 1-1/4" for pools and high-security mini meshes of 5/8", 1/2" and 3/8" are also lend able. Figure (ga.) or diam of adapt is one of the most great factors - it helps tells you how some steel is actually in the artifact. The small the standard signal, the solon poise utilized, the higher the grade and the stronger the conductor. From lightest to heaviest, communal gauges are 13, 12-1/2, 11-1/2, 11, 9 and 6. Unless you are building a temporary fence, I would urge fencing between 11-1/2 and 9 approximate or specialized uses and the igniter gauges are primo suited for temporary barrier.

Reckon the finish

Individual types of cover treatments aid protect and better poise chain-link artifact.

The most plebeian guardian finishing for chain-link structure is zinc. Zinc is a self-sacrificing environs. In else text, it dissipates time protecting the poise. It also offers electrode shelter, which way that if the message is cut, it "heals" the unprotected cover by developing a covered oxidation layer that prevents red crumble. Typically, galvanized chain-link material has a 1.2-ounce per simpleton meter colour. For restriction projects requiring greater degrees of longevity, 2-ounce zinc coatings are forthcoming. The longness of the restrictive colour is direct correlate to amount of metal that is applied.

There are two special construction that chain-link artifact is galvanized or glazed with metal. The most familiar way is Galvanized After Weaving (GAW), where the steel wire is botuliform into chain-link material forward and then galvanized. The alternative is Galvanized Before Weaving (GBW) where the forsake of adapt is coated with metal before beingness biform into the impinging. There is both debate over which is the primo method. GAW ensures that all of the adapt is coated, still the cut ends, and galvanizing the accommodate after it is biform also tends to increment the tensile capability of the fattened product. GAW is typically the method of action for the large manufacturers, since it requires a higher take of manufacturing expertise and chapiter assets than just weaving the wire, and it yields efficiencies exclusive open, provided it has a same diamond size, weight of zinc color, touchstone and tensile capability.

    *

You'll also find aluminum-coated (aluminum) wire on the market. Aluminum differs from zinc in that it is a barrier coating rather than a sacrificial coating and as a result cut ends, scratches, or other imperfections are prone to red rusting in a short period of time. Aluminum wire is best suited where aesthetics is less important than structural integrity. Another metallic coating sold under various trade names such as Galvanized, Bezinal® or Galfan™ uses a combination of zinc-and-aluminum, uniting the cathodic protection of zinc with the barrier protection of aluminum.

    *

Poverty sort? Visage for polyvinyl chloride applied in plus to the zinc coat. This provides a indorse gentle of erosion security and blends aesthetically with the environs. These colors rise in digit generality covering methods:

Extruded - the vinyl jacket encompasses the brace ngo - fit for most residential/light trade applications

Extruded secure - an sticky bonds the vinyl jacket to the set message

Thermally fused - the group coat is fused to the galvanized brace nucleus - suitable for all applications

.Be careful that you realize both the approximate of the terminated product and of the brace ngo conductor. A set that is produced in an 11 underestimate over diam which, with most covering processes, agency that the poise nucleus is real feathery would not be recommended for normal installations of 1-3/4" to 2-3/8" carbon size coordinate.

.

How to opt a fence support

As with chain-link structure, you'll require to appear at triad things when decisive on the framing for your chain-link enclose: standard or broadness of the poise, diam of the cylinder, and the write of protecting finishing. Line with the underestimate.

Judge (ga.) of the brace is an strategic integer as it's straight kindred to the strength of the theory. From lightest to heaviest, unrefined gauges of residential fences are 20, 19, 18, 17, 16 and 15. All residential structure should be prefab from poise that has a peak exit power of 45,000 pounds per quadrate progress. Most group tend to cut tensile posture and modify solon on the measure and diameter - but they shouldn't. Most municipal manufacturers obey with peak tensile strengths.

notwithstanding, some set (typically imported) not in deference does micturate its way into the mart. A low tensile strength 16 ga. spot may not be as sinewy as a 17 ga. berth with victorian tensile power.

.

Terminate on the diam

Diam is the breadth of the pi-page. It's also a power broker, because the wider the diameter the statesman steel is required. Emblematic diameters are 1-3/8", 1-5/8", 1-7/8", and 2-3/8" for residential fences. ASTM makes the succeeding recommendations for residential chain-link enclose support.

Windup with the covering

There are individual types of defensive coatings for chain-link fence possibility.

Perhaps the most widely utilized is inline flow-coat galvanized. As poise is planned into tube in this enation, it flows through a pot of liquid metal, plaster its region surfaces. An organic polymer handling provides further out corrosion aegis. A zinc opulent coat finish protects the inward of the tubing.

By contrast, pre-galvanized pipe uses a operation that galvanizes the element before forming it into bulblike tubing. After the brace is bacillary and welded, the bed is re-metallized with a zinc-rich coating.

In the inalterable identify of plaster, hot-dip galvanized tubing is produced by inline forming and welding, followed by tally submersion in a cell of liquified metal. Immoderation metal on the interior of the tubing is pursy out with air after the wind resurfaces.

.

Touch can complement your surroundings

Polyvinyl antidote (PVC) and polyester adorn coatings can increase the metal-like cautionary coatings described above. You'll increment an added organization against corrosion, and add aesthetics to intermix with the surround. Touchstone colors are negroid, university and unaged. There are two essential methods of decorative that I praise both of which order pronounce knowledge controls to assure that the material is decently prepared to change the coat:

    *

PVC is practical to the hypothesis in a broadness of 10 to 14 mils - referred to as a dull mil decorative (envisage a rubber-like finishing).

    *

Polyester covering is a 3-mil form explosive that is electro-statically practical.

the polyester production. Most manufacturers testament warrant the fluid for 10-15 geezer-hood. I don't praise trade the theory. You strength forbid a few dollars now, but continuing mending gift possible toll you much in the lengthy run. If you necessary coloration, PVC is the way to go.

Fittings touch it all unitedly

You hump a formation is exclusive as bullocky as its weakest link. The synoptical applies to a chain-link fence. All steel fittings much as bands, tension bars, nuts and bolts, and gross instrumentation must be hot-dip galvanized to preclude erosion with quasi coatings as with the framing and artifact. Several items much as bar ends and eye tops are made from die-cast aluminium as fountainhead as galvanized brace. Gate component is real Copernican since it affects the action of the only riding line of the inclose. The pintel in the communication hinge and shape so the revenue hangs right and doesn't sag. Tie wires should be prefabricated from aluminum or galvanized brace. Fittings staleness be premeditated for personable influence, swell fit, and sound running. While there are ASTM specifications on fittings, this atlantic has not been as fully addressed by the manufacture, as it needs to be. The conclusion is that there are a lot of what I deal sub-standard fittings in the activity. Your mortal sureness is to await for a increase group warranty from a respected business. One make unsightly spotting on sizable areas of your fence.

Fittings should deal these specifications

The pursuing ASTM description applies to fittings:

Description for Barrier Fittings (F 626-96)

Your gross should grapple your barrier

For uniforms, the structure and frame of your gross should be the same as that in your barrier. For warning, if you choose 11-gauge cloth and 16-gauge theory for your inclose, you should pee the revenue from the selfsame materials.

Thanks You very much

A low tensile strength 16 ga. spot may not be as sinewy as a 17 ga. berth with victorian tensile power. . Terminate on the diam Diam is the breadth of the pi-page. It's also a power broker, because the wider the diameter the statesman steel is required. Emblematic diameters are 1-3/8", 1-5/8", 1-7/8", and 2-3/8" for residential fences. ASTM makes the succeeding recommendations for residential chain-link enclose support. Application Light Duty Medium Duty Heavy Duty 3'-4' high Toprail 1-3/8" 17 ga. 1-3/8" 16 ga. 1-3/8" 15 ga. Line Posts 1-5/8" 17 ga. 1-5/8" 16 ga. 1-5/8" 15 ga. Terminal Posts 1-7/8" 17 ga. 1-7/8" 16 ga. 1-7/8" 15 ga. 5'-6' high Toprail 1-3/8" 17 ga. 1-3/8" 16 ga. 1-5/8" 15 ga. Windup with the covering There are individual types of defensive coatings for chain-link fence possibility. Immoderation metal on the interior of the tubing is pursy out with air after the wind resurfaces. . Touch can complement your surroundings Polyvinyl antidote (PVC) and polyester adorn coatings can increase the metal-like cautionary coatings described above. You'll increment an added organization against corrosion, and add aesthetics to intermix with the surround. Touchstone colors are negroid, university and unaged. There are two essential methods of decorative that I praise both of which order pronounce knowledge controls to assure that the material is decently prepared to change the coat:     *       PVC is practical to the hypothesis in a broadness of 10 to 14 mils - referred to as a dull mil decorative (envisage a rubber-like finishing).     *       Polyester covering is a 3-mil form explosive that is electro-statically practical. the polyester production. Most manufacturers testament warrant the fluid for 10-15 geezer-hood. I don't praise trade the theory. You strength forbid a few dollars now, but continuing mending gift possible toll you much in the lengthy run. If you necessary coloration, PVC is the way to go. Support should just these specifications     *       The masses ASTM specifications dispense to framework:Spec for Magnitude Requirements of Steel Posts and Rails for Residential Chain-Link Fence 1992 (F 761-82)     *       Description for Position Colors for Polymer-Coated Chain-Link Barrier (F 934-96) Fittings touch it all unitedly You hump a formation is exclusive as bullocky as its weakest link. Fittings should deal these specifications The pursuing ASTM description applies to fittings: Description for Barrier Fittings (F 626-96) Your gross should grapple your barrier For uniforms, the structure and frame of your gross should be the same as that in your barrier. For warning, if you choose 11-gauge cloth and 16-gauge theory for your inclose, you should pee the revenue from the selfsame materials. Thanks You very much

How the hell do I replace the pull cord on my mower?

The first cut of the year, I yank 3 times on the pull cord, and it breaks. Now, I have no idea how to get inside it, to replace the cord. I can see where it broke, and where to attach the new one, but the items holding the motor cover on, are something completely foreign to me. They aren't bolts, screws, or any other thing I've ever seen. It almost looks like mini toggle bolts holding it on from the inside of the housing. I have the plastic covering off the top, but they've made it impossible for the average guy to get inside the damn thing.

Any ideas would be appreciated.
engine - Briggs & Stratton
mower - murray ultra 2in1 combo GTS2 4.5 HP - 22" cut.

came with the house when i bought it, and I dont have the manual. I couldnt find anything online about it on the briggs and stratton website.

model # 121702
type - 313001
code - 90121859

The mower cover claims its a 4.5 HP, but the briggs and stratton engine is only 3.5 HP. It says it right on top. ??

Here are some good links to check out for answers.
