The Civic, while larger than most of Honda's previous models, was much lighter and smaller than any of the American cars produced at the time.
Many different ideas have been put forth as to why Honda has been so successful in the United States market but whatever the reason, the fact remains that since Honda first established a foot hold in here 1972, it has meet with overwhelming success.
This success began with the introduction of the Honda Civic.t the time. In 1972, just as the gas crisis was taking a bite out Detroit, another impediment to American Manufacturers was on the horizon. The Environmental Protection Agency, still relatively young at the time, had just passed a series of emissions laws that required American auto makers to install expensive catalytic converts to the exhaust systems of all vehicles produced for United States markets. This increased sticker prices dramatically. At the same time that these things were taking place, Honda had been working diligently to perfect its new CVCC stratified Charge engine. This engine, introduced in the 1975 Civic, could pass emissions test without an expensive catalytic converter. The price difference as well as the dramatically higher fuel efficiency of the Civic drew customers away from the higher priced American models. For the first time, the big three in Detroit sensed a shift in loyalty from the American consumer. More concerned with their wallets, American car buyers began to dessert the American brands.
By 1976, Honda had broken into the car market in the United States. By 1982, Honda was building car plants in the United States. The first was the Accord plant in Marysville, Ohio. With its North American headquarters situated in Torrance, California, Honda now has two other plants in Ohio as well as one in Alabama and South Carolina.
Honda was quickly gain a reputation in the automotive world and in 1989 introduced a concept that would alter the automotive industry yet again with the unveiling of its newest design: the VTEC engine. A revolutionary technology, the VTEC is a variable valve timing system that improves efficiency and performance of car engines across a wide span of speeds. The concept involves the tuning of one engine to operate at different settings for different speeds by combining two different size cam lobes that engage at different speeds. The Shorter cam lobe operates at low speed driving when more power and lower torque are needed. The Longer cam operates at high speeds when continued acceleration is desired. Other car manufacturers hurried to produce their own versions and this technology is standard for most auto manufacturers today.
Honda actually makes more than just cars as most are aware. The Japanese company manufactures Trucks, motorcycles, scooters, ATV's, watercraft and most other items with a gasoline engine attached. Today Honda is the largest manufacturer of engines in the world. While most Japanese automakers have reputations for dependability, Honda automobiles have surpassed this to own one of the top spots in not only the United States but around the world.

Honda Type R: not for the Faint-hearted
It can be remembered that Honda has announced at the beginning of last year that they would be updating their best-selling hot hatch and since then the speed boys have been waiting in anticipation.
And after a seemingly endless run of concepts the wait is finally over, the Type R is finally here and its what the speed boys have hoped it will be—a full-on, flame snorting, Red Bull slurping motor that possess the ground clearance of a Hoover and handling that feels like an adult-sized Scalextric car.
The Type R arrived with all it glinting alloys, flouncing side skirts and a high-revving 235kph 2-liter i-VTEC engine. This car is not for the faint-hearted but for those who prefer to explore their less cautious side. The Type R is considered to be a humdrum Honda Civic which according to observers is quite a turnaround for Honda.
And speaking of Honda Civic, it has been in continuous production for 35 years which is the second longest coming from a Japanese automaker with Toyota Corolla in first place being manufactured four year longer than the Civic.
In the past Honda Civic has gained a reputation as a quietly chivalrous and reliable mode of transport and such reputation is being carried until today by presently manufactured Honda Civics.
There are already a total of eight Civic makeovers and if in the past there was only sense, the new Civics today exudes sensation. The new Type R for instance features a kind of extreme styling that would make angina patients to reach for their pills.
Honda’s Type R has swollen with plastic bulges with weird angular shapes which gives the impression of a car-sized espresso machine designed by someone with deep dislike to curves. Everything on the Type R from its triangular exhaust pipes and isosceles lamps, to the honeycomb grille, and arrow-point door handles that are sharp and pointy screams uniqueness.
The arrival of the high-performance Type R variant, Honda has given its customers with a kind of car with the looks that reflects its performance.
Inside the Type R is all about driving experience. The seats are black racing-style buckets with red stitching. The red stitching extends to the steering wheel and gear stick. The sexy design of the Type R’s interior is courtesy of Betty Page. The dashboard is built on two tiers and flashes at you madly at both banks as a matter of fact even the center of the steering wheel is an information point and makes you feel that as if you are driving an episode of 24 rather than a hatchback.
The Type R’s extraordinary direct steering, stiff ride and limitless power gives it a handling like a macho fairground ride which will somehow makes you a little scared and a bit dizzy.
Honda the producer of high quality Integra body kit has announced last week that the only country aside from those in Europe that will be able to experience the Type R is Australia.

The B16A from the XSi comes with a cable transmission and your car has a hydraulic transmission, so you'd also need to buy a hydro to cable conversion mount kit. It's also going to be a hassle to put an OBD0 engine into your OBD2A car. Not to mention the fact that if you have emissions testing in your area, you will automatically fail. I highly recommend that you find a B16A3 or B16A2 engine from a USDM Del Sol VTEC or '99-'00 Civic Si and swap that it. Anything other than a '96-'00 engine is going to more trouble than it's worth, you'd actually be better off with a '96-'98 engine so the ECU will work perfectly without a conversion harness ('96-'98 is OBD2A and '99-'00 is OBD2B).
The suspensions are no where near compatible between those 2 cars. If you need new suspension, save yourself the time and aggravation and just buy them from a '96-'00 Civic. Some of the rear brake parts may work. Here's some stuff on brake and suspension compatibility that you may want to look at:

2010 Honda Civic Si Coupe Navi, an AW Drivers Log:
ASSOCIATE EDITOR JONATHAN WONG: Without question, Honda's K-series engine with its six-speed manual transmission is the smoothest, most fun and easiest to operate pairing certainly in the sport compact segment, but also probably on the market.
