The 1970 Mercury Cyclone is a stylish version of its rivals from Chevy, Dodge, and other American muscle car brands like Plymouth and Oldsmobile. Although it's under the competition's performance ranks, the 1970 Mercury Cyclone is a true stallion if you consider it's interior and exterior looks.
Mercury created a few competitors to its own Cyclone in order to market them differently. For example, the Mercury Comet came out in the 70's, but the 1970 Mercury Cyclone is still considered more elegant. Other brands like Ford Torino were natural competition, but Mercury's swag was considered more futuristic than any of those other muscle cars.
The 1970 Cyclone came in a few designs, one of which became known as the coke bottle. This particular model featured a 429-cid V8, competing with some hemi models, but still being blown out of the water in speed competitions: the Cyclone continued to compromise speed for looks. Still, this 370 hp beast (which featured Thunderbird's baseline engine) outperformed the 250 hp Cyclone GT, although they were both 1970 Mercury Cyclones. For car collectors who like unique antiques, the Cyclone Spoiler is a truly rare catch, because there were less than 1,700 built and only under a thousand of them remain today in presentable condition.
The 1970 Mercury Cyclone's automatic rear-wheel transmission came as a 3-speed, with optional upgrades. You can just rev the engine and the sense of history hits you; indeed, craftsmanship of car makers in the 70s was outstanding.
Hop into any 1970 Mercury and start it up; considering that the car is 40 years old, you may be surprised by its sounds and just the general feel of the vehicle. In regards to handling, this vehicle does not disappoint; the 1970 Mercury Cyclone offers luxurious comfort with great stability around hills and curves. It's almost a Buick-like experience.
Mercury's efforts to make this American muscle car a success earned the 1970 Cyclone a Motor Trends "Car Of The Year" award - and righteously so.
For around $4,400, you could buy a brand spankin' new Cyclone, which wasn't too bad, but lowers it's "bang for your buck" value. After all, a muscle car is a cheap car that produces a lot of horse power, but with this vehicle, Mercury chose to provide comfort to compliment its speed. The cheaper versions went from 0 to 60mph in 6.2 seconds; the baseline 1970 Mercury Cyclone (the 250 hp engine) is quicker than most modern compact cars, but better yet, hop in a V8 and you're on a whole new playing field.
More on 1970 mercury cyclone can be found at my Old Classic Muscle Cars blog.
The Birth Of The 1955 Chevy - "the Hot One"!
The Chevrolet Bel Air was not borne in 1955, it just grew up that year. It was the time for "The Hot one", the 1955 Chevy.
A country of motorists was home bound beginning in 1942 because of the start of the United States participation in World war Two. Car manufacturing had been halted that year since companies geared up to build airplane, trucks and tanks and what ever else was basically required for the war efforts.

It had not been before the 1950s in which the big 3 car producers, GM, Ford and Chrysler started to reinvent the car. The 1949, 1950, 1951, 1953 and 1954 Chevrolets been given mainly modest facelifts and were referred to as boring yet trustworthy.
On the other hand, in 1955, 1956 and 1957 look and engineering had been improved drastically by Chevrolet. What individuals were responsible for the new Chevy's? Chuck Jordon, Harley Earl and specially Edward Nicholas Cole, Chevrolet's Chief Engineer.
In May of 1952 General Motors, Chevrolet stylist Ed Cole started a three year run on what the classic auto lovers half a century later on would certainly call the best of the 1950s classic automobiles. The very first Chevrolet manufactured in this new time of affordable dream automobiles, was the 1955 Chevrolet. It was launched as the "Hot One". A nationwide romance was about to begin.
Chevrolet shed their unexciting outdated image in 1955, changing it with all new "Motoramic" styling. "Don't argue with this baby" informed one Chevrolet advertising campaign in 1955. Chevy did certainly have a whole lot to boast about that year and it recognized it. Entirely redesigned, along with a great deal of styling, add-ons, plus a powerful new V-8 it had been essentially the most improved Chevy since W.W.II.
The 1955 Chevrolet had three distinctive models, Bel Air, 210 and 150, and sixteen new body designs! The Bel Air Convertible, Sport Coupe 2 door hard top, 4 door sedan, 2 door sedan, Beauville 4 door station and also the Nomad 2 door station wagon. The mid level Two-Ten Sport Coupe 2 door hard top, Delray Club Coupe 2 door, 4 door sedan, 2 door sedan, Townsman 4 door station wagon and the Handyman 2 door station wagon.
The more affordable price models were the One-Fifty 4 door sedan, 2 door sedan, 2 door utility sedan and the Handyman 2 door station wagon. More alluring body colors were obtainable in 1955, with 14 solid color alternatives and twenty one new two-tone combinations.
The new 1955 Chevrolet provided a V-8 motor for the very first time in 35 years. It had been named the 265 cubic inch "Turbo-Fire" V-8 that provided 162 horsepower using a two barrel carburetor and 180 horsepower with a four barrel carburetor.
Additionally offered was Chevrolet's old dependable 235 cubic inch six cylinder that produced 123 horsepower. Transmissions included a 3-speed standard, 3-speed with overdrive along with the Powerglide.
The new Chevrolet's were definitely smoother, lower and also longer looking. A grand total of 1,704,667 1955 Chevy's were made, setting an output record in 1955. The 1955 Chevy Bel Air is still one of the most collectible classic cars and if you want to buy one you should check out the links below!

What is a bad amount of miles on a Chevy or Ford truck?
I'm starting to look for my first car and I have some questions about miles put on a truck. I'm currently looking at American made trucks, since they are usually more dependable.
I have looked at a few older trucks that have between $125,000-$160,000 miles on them. They were made around 1998-2000.
So, what is a good amount of miles on a truck that is about 10 years old and what is a bad amount of miles?
Thanks
It's a tough call because a lot depends on how tough the original owner was on the truck. American trucks like Chevy or Ford can last for over 300,000 miles easily if they haven't taken a lot of abuse and have been well-cared for. So don't focus too much on the mileage. 120,000 to 160,000 miles isn't bad for a truck that's 8 to 10 years old. You'd be better off looking at the maintenance records and/or having a mechanic check it out. A good mechanic will be able to tell you if a truck has gone through the standard wear and tear or if the owner pounded the hell out of it. He/She will also be able to tell you if the owner followed the recommended maintenance schedule or not.
