How much torque and hp chevy 400 with mods?
How much hp and torque can I guess at or expect out of the following: 1976 2 bolt main chevy 400. Stock block, crank, rods, pistons and cam. hi volume oil pump, circle track 8 quart oil pan, Weiand 8125 intake, polished heads with heavy springs and gasket matched, all new engine gaskets, new timing chain, headers, (no mufflers) 4 barrel holley 750 carb, aftermarket 6.75" 7lb harmonic balancer, hei/dui stealth distributor. Going to use on a 1/4 mile dirt track racecar.
I do have a bigger cam on the shelf that came out of a actual 350 race engine but I'm unsure of the size. I've heard/read that the bigger cams can hit the rods on the 400's?
If you still have the stock cam then you wont make much more power than stock. The camshaft is the heart of the engine, everything else depends on that. Also since you are mostly stock, you wont need a high volume oil pump. They rob horsepower because it takes more power to turn them. Also, you want to leave a rough surface in the intake runners of the heads because the fuel will condense on the walls of a polished runner, you want it to be atomized for better burning.
