The Mercury Sable was introduced as a new and redesigned car in 2008, and because the engine performed so well, the 2010 Mercury Sable is powered by the same engine that debuted with the car. The 2010 Mercury Sable has a 3.5L V6 engine. The engine has 263 horsepower along with 249 pound-feet of torque. It has four valves per cylinder with double overhead cams. Even though the Sable's engine has potent horsepower, the Sable boasts good fuel efficiency with 18 mpg around town and 28 mpg on the highway. The Sable's V6 is a powerful engine that enables the Sable to drive comfortably on the highway and around town.
The Sable's 3.5L V6 engine is combined with a choice of power train, either a front-wheel drive or an all wheel drive option. The automatic transmission boasts six gears, which aid in fuel efficiency. When this engine was introduced it was rated by Ward's Auto World magazine as one of the ten best engines.
The 3.5L V6 engine is a lighter engine compared to the Sable's competitor's engines in the same class because it is made of aluminum. However, its strength and reliability has not been compromised because the engine has Ford's patented thermal spray coating on its cylinder bores. The spray takes the place of heavy cast-iron liners.
This makes the 3.5L V6 lighter by six pounds, and the engine is able to work more efficiently because the spray reduces friction between the piston rings and cylinder bore; this increases fuel efficiency. Engine performance has also been improved because the thermal spray manages heat better than the traditional cast iron liners.

where can i get factory size pistons for a 2002 i6 4.0 "s" vin jeep motor?
the factory wants $185 for each piston, pin and rod assembly, i don't need all that. just a good set of factory size pistons and rings which i can not find anywhere. my engine has one broke piston and 5 cracked pistons, cracked or broke in the same place on all. the engine is perfect shape other than that. even all 6 cylinder walls are as slick as glass with almost no wear at 164k miles. we have checked every auto parts supply store we know of and the only place to get replacement pistons seems to be from the local jeep dealer. with all 6 either broke or cracked i am afraid its a factory flaw and i really don't want to put another set of factory cast pistons back in it. has anyone else had problems finding replacement pistons for this year model? any help would be appreciated. thanks.

I found some that fit 96-04. They are standard size. 4WheelDrive (4WD.com) has them. The link is http://www.4wd.com/productdetails.aspx?partID=51475. The price is approximately $60 each.
Good luck.
PS. I have never heard of that problem.
Thomas Alter: Why The Heat Won't Win
The title of this piece is a bit misleading. The Heat will win often this year, maybe upwards of 65 games. They won't win a title though.
