Learn the pros and cons of aftermarket wheel center caps and buy the right aftermarket center cap at the right price for your vehicle.

OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) Center Caps:

A vehicle's center caps from the original manufacturer are considered to be classified as OEM or better known as Original Equipment Manufacturer. That is why these particular accessories, that the manufacturer installed on the vehicle, are given the name OEM.

In actuality, the car manufacturer rarely manufacturers any parts themselves as they often contract with outside suppliers to produce these parts according to their particular standards of quality control. They then put all these numerous parts together, at an automobile assembly plant, or deliver them into their distribution chain for sale as individual parts.

Quite often the parts are stamped with the vehicle manufacturer's brand name even though some manufacturers don't actually have their company brand name applied to their OEM caps.

The benefit of having such OEM caps is that they were designed according to manufacturer specifications and will often fit perfectly into the wheels or rims of the vehicle with minimal adjustment. Quite often they are covered under the manufacturer warranty against defects as well. In addition, the brand name insignia stamped onto the product provides a more fluid look to the overall aesthetic appeal of the wheels themselves.

Aftermarket Center Caps:

The term "Aftermarket" can be accredited to any part of a vehicle that is not manufactured by, or specifically for, the original vehicle manufacturer. This can be something as general as aftermarket caps that you might find for sale in your local car parts shop with a very unique style other than the original manufacturer had intended.

Nevertheless there is definitely an ever expanding industry of small to medium sized manufacturers of exact replicas of OEM wheels or completely different designs by other brand name aftermarket companies.

It is astounding to know that automobile manufacturers actually tolerate this kind of behaviour considering the replicas appear to be exactly identical in both appearance and styles. But keep in mind that, depending on where you buy them from, the quality may be inferior.

Not all but most definitely some aftermarket wheel center caps are inferior quality to their OEM counterparts even though they appear to be the same item offered at a much cheaper price point. These aftermarket replica center caps are manufactured in various parts of Asia and, if unchecked, are produced according to inferior standards while maintaining the outward appearance of the same as the OEM designs. Therefore, the center caps may be subject to performance failure as they may easily crack under regular use, or worse, completely fall off and are lost in the process. This is solely because the independent replica manufacturers do not need to adhere to any specific quality control policies.

This is not to say that all aftermarket center caps are considered to be poor quality, if they are manufactured in Asia, rather there are many manufacturers who invested millions of dollars into maintaining quality control in every step of the manufacturing process. It is a well known fact that brand name companies, either from OEM automobile manufacturers or aftermarket companies, adhere to a much higher quality control process as their names and reputations are more at stake on an international level. So, if they do have a manufacturer plant in Asia they make sure that all their employees and equipment are of the highest standards to produce high quality products.

The only other major con that a person who buys aftermarket wheel center caps can experience is that if they return to their original car dealer for a warranty replacement the technician may recognize that this is an aftermarket center cap and not replace the center cap. Furthermore, they may not cover any other damage that occurred as a result of the defect.

It is recommended that you buy from reputable well known brand name aftermarket center cap manufacturers that not only provide superior quality products but have their own individual warranties to back up their products.

In conclusion, OEM center maps may be slightly better quality, on average, than their aftermarket center caps counterparts, but don't be fooled into thinking that this is always the case. With respect to brand name aftermarket wheel center caps, such as the aforementioned list, choosing this type of aftermarket center cap is generally as good as or even better than OEM manufacturer ones. Moreover, they are priced much more appropriately than the ones you find at your local car dealership which helps you save money.

USB Flash Drives Explained

USB flash drives have become extremely popular as giveaways and incentives in recent years. They are used on a daily basis for storing and transporting data but like so many other computer-related items it is sometimes a mystery how they actually work!

There are typically three parts to a flash drive:

• Male type-A USB connector – provides an interface to the host computer.

• USB mass storage controller – implements the USB host controller. The controller contains a small microcontroller with a small amount of on-chip ROM and RAM.

• NAND flash memory chip – stores data. NAND flash is typically also used in digital cameras.

A typical flash memory device has a housing including a small printed circuit board (PCB), and an integral connector for connecting to a USB port on a computer. The USB flash drive is connected to a computer either by direct connection or via a USB hub. When plugged into a USB port, the computer’s operating system recognizes the flash memory device as a removable drive and allows data to be retrieved from and added to the flash memory drive. Most flash drives require no other external power source or battery power source as they become active when connected with a computer.

Computers access modern flash memory systems very much like hard disk drives, where the controller system has full control over where information is actually stored.

Nothing actually moves in a flash drive: the term drive persists because computers read and write flash-drive data using the same system commands as for a mechanical disk drive, with the storage appearing to the computer operating system and user interface as just another drive.

In a nutshell, this means because USB memory sticks need no batteries and have no moving parts, they are significantly more reliable and robust compared to older storage technologies such as floppy disks and CDR/DVD-ROM media.

The USB connector is usually protected by a removable cap or by retracting into the body of the drive, although it is not likely to be damaged if exposed. Most flash drives use a standard type USB connection allowing you to plug into a port on a personal computer, but drives for other interfaces also exist.

The flash memory chips themselves are usually made in China and Taiwan by manufacturers such as Samsung, Micron, Hynix and Intel or other OEM brands. The chips are then assembled into the memory sticks and often branded with a customer’s logo.

Recycled or B Grade flash is common in such a price driven market so it is always worth checking with your supplier exactly who the flash was manufactured by. At USB2U we only use the highest grade quality chips for all of our Flash drives. Be very cautious with some companies who offer Flash drives for discounted prices incorporating B Grade chips. These types of Flash drives will only last a dozen or so times before they break or become unstable.

USB Flash drives are now an incredibly popular way of storing and carrying data and their utility has driven their use in the Promotion and Incentives market where branded USB Memory Sticks have become one of the mainstays of the industry

Radio ignition noise cause?

My Kawasaki motorcycle has a radio with five components: removable faceplate with control knobs, radio tuner, amplifier, low filter and antenna. The tuner was faulty, so I replaced it and the faceplate with NOS items. Now that the radio is working, I'm getting ignition noise. I connected a different antenna without any improvement. I've checked the ignition system there's no loose connections or faulting wiring. I have new 8mm resistor plug wires as well as the OEM resistor caps which check out ok as well. The only thing left (I think) is the amplifier and low filter.

Anyone have any ideas of what the problem may be?
Thanks!
Additional: The old tuner would work intermittently and less so as time went by. The different components of the sound system are separate and easily replaced. I have sometimes gotten some static or noise when going over a sharp bump, so it certainly may be the ground. Thanks a lot!

First off, you said you replaced the tuner. Did you do this yourself or did you have it professionally done? Yes, a faulty ground will cause noise, but Im not sure that is what it is; you have an amp also and you said your tuner was faulty, how was it faulty? Check the wiring (grounds) and make sure they are secure. Next I would look into getting a filter for you supply line to the amp and tuner. They are not very expensive and you can just put them in line with the 12V line going to the tuner and the amp. It is basically a coil and a resistor. check into it...good luck...
