In addition to the new fuel pump, you'll need a new gas tank O-ring seal to complete the installation.

If you are going to take on the project of installing a new fuel pump into your car we suggest that you work in a well vented area and have fuel level to a bare minimum, preferably 1/8 tank or less. You will be working with fuel, so please keep safety in mind.

Being by opening the panel to the fuse box and remove the fuse for the fuel pump. Start the car and wait for it to stall. Do this a couple more times until the car no longer wants to start. By doing so, you are releasing the fuel pressure from within the fuel line. Once the car is stalled, put the fuse back in. Make sure you car ignition is in the OFF position before continuing.

Raise your hood and disconnect the negative terminal of the battery. Open the gas cap to release pressure in the fuel tank. Locate the access plate normally in the trunk area of your car and disconnect the wiring harnesses. There will be hoses attached to the plate. You will need to loosen the clamps and then remove the hoses. Gas will squirt out when you remove the hoses so have a rag ready. Remember which hose goes where. You can use colored electrical tape to remind you. Now you should be able to pull up the tank access plate.

There is a fuel level sender attached to it. You must gently work the whole assembly out of the hole. After you remove the fuel level sender you should see the white fuel pump holder. Take a flat head screwdriver and snap it open to release the fuel pump.

Now you have to turn the fuel pump so that the siphon bag comes out from underneath the pump holder. The stock pump will come out and you can remove the power harness. There is a small clip that holds the siphon bag to the stock fuel pump. You must remove the clip to take off the siphon bag. Using the same clip, put the siphon bag on the new pump. Attach the harness to the pump and work the assembly back into the holder in the fuel tank. Reassemble the tank access plate, secure the hoses, and reattach the harnesses.

Reconnect the battery and turn ignition to the ON position without starting the car. You should hear the pump go on for a second. Look and make sure the hoses are not leaking.

Then you can put on the cover plate using a new O-ring. The last step is to put your gas cap back on.

Advices With Fuel Leaks On Your Subaru WRX

We see issues with a large amount of after-market 500-horsepower pumps, particularly on the turbo Subarus when we are doing upgrades, because we've revealed that the factory pumps can't deliver enough trustworthy fuel pressure and flow when you start turning up the power due to a fuel leak which will have happened after doing some alterations or changing the fuel pump.

to use the fuel pump on the '02 model WRX as an example, there's a cover that is on the floor beneath the backseat, and also in part accessible from within the trunk or the boot. This gives you access to the pinnacle of the fuel tank, that has got a couple of minute bolts that hold the cover down with a seal. You undo that seal and pull the fuel pump out to modify it, and when it is going back together you're actually putting the cover back on and the seal can regularly slip or not go back in the right location. You are basically doing it blind as you can't see what you are doing since you're working from the top and you can't look in from the side of the tank because it's all up under the back of the automobile.

It's an easy trap for folks to not put that seal back on correctly and something to listen to when you are working with the fuel pump. The 1st sign of a leak is either when you fill the vehicle up full with fuel or if it has a moderately full tank and you go for a drive and see indicators of fuel spilling out round the side of the gas tank. It will not basically come within the car, nonetheless it will come out round the side of the tank and then drip on the ground. My advice is to get that checked out because there's doubtless each possibility that that seal has doubtless been pinched, damaged, or merely has not been put back together correctly after the gas tank was taken apart to fit the fuel pump. It's definitely something that must be checked extremely fast because driving around with leaky fuel in the back of the car under any condition is undeniably not safe.

1999 Subaru Impreza 2.0 wrx turbo loss of water coolant after short drive it evaporates or goes?

HI wondering if anyone can help with info after a short journey I check the water when the vehicle has cooled down and there will be lost water, approx half the water from the expansion tank.

The temperature meter on the dashboard stays normal and I cant seem to detect any leaks

I have changed the thermostat to no avail.

When I drained the water there was a lot of orangey water mixture indicating corrosion or rust in the system, however I have flushed the system many times but still loses water. The water has cleaned up. There doesnt deem to a trail or drips of water on the road surface, could it be evaporating.

Due to this fault I dont drive the car worried it might all go and damage the engine.

Any info please.

it is possible you have a head gasket problem and the coolant is probably going out the tailpipe, if you lose coolant every time you drive, you are correct, it is going somewhere, At this point it is probably a small leak, but unfortunatly they tend to get bigger. a shop is going to do a pressure test of the system, but once they do this, if there is a head gasket leak it will push coolant into which cylinder is leaking, and you will have to have the top of the engine taken apart to fix the head gasket. I think your next step is a shop you trust. good luck
