how do I set the cam timing on a 1983 honda v45 magna. It didnt work using the timing marks on the cams.?

I hope you have a shop manual in front of you! That is one heck of a scary motor to set the cam timing. It's taken me 3-4 times to get the cam timing correct once. Take your time, make sure you're turning the crank in the right direction and are starting with the correct set of cylinders. Some motors will have the cam timing off a 1/2 tooth when you initially time it. Turn the motor forward and back to give the tensioners time to adjust. Turn it slowly and stop if you feel any resistance.
