2006 Hummer H2
For this portion of the project we upgraded a 2006 Hummer H2, stock exterior. It came from the factory colored black, with chrome accents, which we have decided to black out. We also took some time to add some performance upgrades. Lets go over some of the install...
All of the performance parts we added are pretty much bolt on items. Lets start with the suspension. To handle a lot better on the road at higher speeds, and eliminate body roll, we installed a Hellwig performance sway bar. We added a cold air intake system from Airaid technologies, and a Gibson stainless steel single pipe exhaust. This will create greater airflow and allow the engine to breathe. This is good because it increases fuel economy and provides more horsepower. Next we swapped out our ECM and contacted Predator Performance to map the air fuel ratio for the best gains in out application. Again these parts are all aftermarket, and will bolt directly on for the most part. The computer system which will require removal of stock ECM and will be sent back to Predator Performance. Overall we were able to gain 106 more HP, and 76 FPTon a dyno. Next we will move onto the exterior work.
We started this portion of the project by removing all of the exterior detail pieces that were to be blacked out with paint. Some of these pieces include the rack bars, fender flares, hood grab bars, and such. This being a Hummer, this particular vehicle has 144 pieces to be prepped and sent out for paint. Moving on to the larger parts we carefully removed the front brushguard and bumper, running boards/rock sliders, rear bumper, and spare tire rack assembly. Then its onto removal of the headlights, tail lights and marker lights on the exterior. Next we took off the tires and preparing the rims for powercoat. We used another set of rims and tires during the meanwhile, so we could continue with the build. When painting chrome and plastic make sure that the pieces are prepped correctly and that you use the correct primers, this will insure that the new paint will not start to delaminate. Its highly recommended that this step is done by a professional. Some items on the exterior cannot be removed so we wrapped and taped off the areas to be painted, then we move our Hummer into the paint booth.
Now that all of our parts are finished and ready for reassembly, we started adding our new tinted lenses and new headlights and fog lamps. All of our tinting for lenses and marker lights is done to customer's wishes, as far as how dark they would like them to be. Use caution though, as some states have a limit for opacity. In the front bumper and brushguard we installed new HID headlights and converted the daytime running lights to LED foglamps. We also installed 2 LED strobe light bars in the middle of the brushguard for show purposes. Along with the lenses we added a back up safety camera, and a dedicated reverse lamp. Be sure to take care when wiring additional items, you don't want any wires near heat sources or where moisture can reach them. This conclude the processes for all of our installation steps on our 2006 Hummer H2.
