The term 'big block' is related with automobile engines. It is actually a series of engines that were of large displacement and were developed several years ago. A proper manifold should be installed on a vehicle to make sure that the engine runs efficiently. It is not too hard to install a manifold on a big block. Here is a simple guide.
Tools Needed
- Basic tools like ratchet, wrench and torque.
- Protective gear like safety clothing
Materials Needed
- Silicone sealant
- Non-hardening sealant
- Oil
- Rags
Guidelines
Step 1:
Every gasket has to be inspected and it must be made sure that they are sealed in a proper way. If bolts require sealing, then it is better to seal them quickly. The gasket and the water ports have to be given particular attention. If the decks of blocks or heads were machined, then they may appear to be lower. If cork or rubber gaskets are present in the intake, then the block would not get firmly fixed to the manifold. To make an air tight connection, it is suitable to use silicone.
Step 2:
Now, the manifold has to be installed. Ensure that everything is right with the oil splash guard. When satisfied, lower the manifold into place. Ensure that adequate help is available to line up the manifold bolt holes. Some adjustments have to be done for lining up the holes.
Step 3:
The possible leaks should be sealed now. It is essential to understand that a lot of bolts ultimately end up close to the head area. There will be a lot of oil present. To prevent leaks, it is ideal to use non-hardening sealant on the bolts.
Step 4:
Once the bolts on the manifold and block have been tightened, it is essential to understand the tightening and loosening sequences which are needed. Some can vary but the loosening and tightening sequence of many blocks and manifolds start from the middle and go outwards.
Step 5:
It is important to ensure that each bolt is tightened to the same rating with torque wrench. However every bolt may not be accessed with a torque wrench. In case this happens, then use a box wrench.
Step 6:
This task requires working with larger vehicle and steel parts, it generally means that it is important to follow safety precautions. Anyone who is helping in this task must also be aware of the safety measures while installing the manifold.
Tips & Precautions
- Safety should be your topmost priority at all times. When lowering the manifold to its position, specific precautions must be followed. Caution must also be exercised when silicone is being used as a sealant.
- This is the process to do the task in a DIY style, it is helpful to save a pretty fine amount of money.

P. Diddy Makes Sean John Rims For Luxury SUV's, Trucks, And Cars.
Sean "P. Diddy" Combs has already made his mark as a musician and all-around entertainment entrepreneur. P. Diddy has built up his empire from a record label to a conglomerate of "gangster chic" consumer items, he now has another money making machine on his hands. Diddy is now in the auto parts business designing luxury custom car and truck rims with Weld Wheel Industries Inc.
The 50-50 joint venture between Combs' Bad Boy Worldwide Entertainment Group and Kansas City's Weld Wheel Industries Inc. was announced at the 2005 New York International Auto Show and targets sports trucks, luxury SUVs and high-end American and German automobiles. The Sean John signature wheel designs retail between $700 to $3,000 each and are a high-end, quality alternative to mainstream custom wheels.
Styling and innovation is synonymous with Combs, and Sean Jean Wheels are all about hot styling. Designed specifically to reflect the sexy, sophisticated P. Diddy lifestyle image. Sean John Wheels are custom crafted for unmatched strength, lightness, and optimum brake cooling ability, and combine stylish, aggressive multi-spoke designs with an aura of elegance that will top off any custom or luxury ride.
In the urban market, custom rims have become a fashion statement if not a "badge of honor". Can any urban lifestyle brand now be complete without a line of dubs? Seriously, chrome rims are the new cologne. Sean's personal choice is the Zeus model which he's added as the finishing touch to his Rolls-Royce Phantom.
The way they've designed the Diddy's line of wheels, they look like they're moving even when they're not. Each of the nine designs- from the elegant six-spoke to the amazingly intricate 18-spoke versions - are built to Weld's legendary toughness and durability standards, delivering low moment of inertia for improved acceleration and air flow to help cooling and reduce lift and drag. They have even given them ancient Greek names like: Zeus, Atlas and Apollo just to name a few.
Your car really is not finished until you buy your custom rims for it. That kind of dictates who you are, like in your Benz, Phantom Rolls Royce, or your Chevy, Ford or whatever car you drive.
Before you go out and spend three to twelve thousand dollars, you need to do some research. You need to read up on the following wheel characteristics: backspace, bolt patterns, centerbore, offset, plus sizing, spacers, wheel adapters and proper torque.

Lug conversion kit to fit ford rims on chevy?
I bought some really nice chrome rims for my Mustang size 17x9 with a bolt pattern of 5x4.5 and i was wondering if someone out there makes lug conversion kits to fit these on a newer 1999-2004 silverado, I dont know the bolt pattern on a silverado and/or if the bolt pattern changes within those 6 years but i just need to know if these exist and where I can get them and for approx. how much. Thank you
First off, why the hell would you put puny car rims on a full size truck? thats just plain stupid. Truck wheels and tires are tougher because trucks are bigger and go thru alot more than cars do. Hope you don't plan on towing, hauling or doing anything a truck was MADE TO DO!!! Trucks are trucks and built to serve a purpose, not for leisure.
They don't make a conversion kit per say, but new axels and rotors (depending on if it's 2wd or 4wd). Some of those have 6 lugs as well. That being the case, you defonitely dont want to change that to 5 lugs for excess stress reasons. If you know a good machinist, you can make a conversion block to do this. Take about 4 hours, a bridgeport and some dimensions.
Random Acts of Kindness: A personal shopper for someone who needed it
