The only difference between 351C/351M/400 engines is in the length of the connecting rod and main bearing size. The 351M/400 engines have the largest bearing size and the tallest deck height while sharing the 429/460 bell housing pattern. The 351C engine has a medium main bearing size and shorter connecting rods than the 351W and the 351M/400 while retaining the SBF engine

2.3 Ford/SBF flywheel bell housing question.?

Is there a difference in the flywheel bolt pattern from a 2.3 ford to a small block ford? Will any of the bell housings interchange? Are the input shafts the same?

The ford 2.3 i4 has similiar pattern to some v6's but will not fit because the starter is mounted on the opposite side. The input shaft and bell housing are exclusive to the 2.3 because ford built the transmissions smaller and did not want bigger engines connected to them because they wouldn't handle the torque.

There are good trannys available for built 2.3's
