With the economy looking like it will be in a slump for a while most people are wondering what they can do to insure their financial future, the answer is classic cars, invest now and get ahead of the curve, but get all of your ducks in a row.
The key to investing in classic cars is to know about what your investing in, if your interested in a certain car to start you down the road to investing in classic cars make sure that you learn all you can about that particular car.
It really doesn't matter what kind car you like, there were special cars built in almost car line, all you need to know is which cars they are, so if the car that your going to start with is a 1960's camaro learn all you can about the 1960's camaro, make yourself an authority on them.
Learn about the engine options, paint codes, interior options, transmissions, learn how to decode the vin plate, trim tags, and any other identifying tags on the car, know it from inside out, if your going to invest to secure your future you'll need to do this.
You'll be repeating this same learning curve every car you buy, if you've found what you think in a Yenko camaro and the selling price in really low, don't consider in a good deal until you know for sure that it is a Yenko camaro.
Special cars like the Yenko camaro, the L88 corvette, the hemi cuda, the GT350 mustang, and the list goes on, these are all great muscle cars to start with, but none of them are usually cheap to buy, if your looking for cheap, you'll need to invest in something else.
The more time you spend learning about the cars, the less money you'll lose on bad investing, so be sure that you know what your doing every time you buy an investment car, a standard camaro, or mustang is not an investment car.
The camaro or mustang in your buddies back yard with the straight back six in it is more then likely not what you want to start with for an investment, the true investment cars are very hard to find, but they are around and you can find them.
People will clone these cars and try to rip you off, this is why you need to know about the cars, know things like the 1969 Z/28 camaro only came with a twelve bolt rear end, it had multiple leaf springs in the rear, it had a 302 290 HP small block Chevy.
These are the king of things that you need to know before you buy the car, you can't ever know to much about the car you want to buy so make yourself an expert, read books on the car, search the great Google search engine.
Once you learn what to search for Google will become your best friend, and closest partner when you start looking for information on these cars, you'll need to learn how to sift through that crap and get to the good information though.
Once you've read a couple of books on the car that you want to buy, and you've mastered the art of the Google search engine, you're ready to go have some fun and begin your search for your first classic car investment, go forth, invest wisely, and have fun.
I've been in the automotive business for about 20 or 25 years, I have worked in all facets of the industry, from parts to restoration, all different makes and models, I just want to keep people interested in the old cars because it's where my heart is.
New Chevrolet R07 to be Tested at the Texas Motors Speedway
Big changes are taking place over NASCAR and for this coming weekend at the Texas Motor Speedway another transformation will be taking place. While the Nextel Cup drivers are driving their old familiar cars which they have been driving for years after the first two races in the Car of Tomorrow, the rest of the Chevrolet entries are to be powered by a new engine.
Chevrolet maker of the quality Chevrolet exhaust system, has been developing an engine for nine years now and for the first time it will make its racing debut in Samsung 500. “This engine now called the R07 actually started out as R99 because we ran it the first time in 1999,” said Mark Cronquist, chief engine builder for Joe Gibbs Racing. He also added, “There was an R03. There was an R05 that never got off of the chalkboard, basically. We had it all designed, but never made it. Then there’s this one, R07. So really, this R07 has been worked on by GM teams since 1998. I’ve got notes in my office from the very first time we talked about this engine. It was January 1998.”
The process was rather frustrating but at the end it was worth the wait said Cronquist and “the awesome thing is that, if you look at R09 and R07, they don’t even look alike, so I’m glad NASCAR never approved it. It had some updates, but every time NASCAR didn’t approve it, we went back and worked harder on it and changed more things on it.”
For this coming weekend it is expected that six teams will run the new engine. Gibbs Racing will place an R07 in the cars of Tony Stewart, Denny Hamlin, and J.J. Yeley Hendrick Motorsports’ Casey Mears and Kyle Busch, and Scott Wimmer, driving a fourth Richard Childress Racing entry.
General Motors world’s largest automaker and distributor of Chevrolet exhaust is hoping to have the engine ready for this season’s upcoming race but unfortunately a few technical difficulties slowed the progress of the project. Cronquist is very much excited to get the new engine into competition. He said, “With a motor we’ve been running, the block part of it was actually designed in 1955. We’ve made a few modifications to it, but it would still bolt into a 1955 Chevy Bel Air. The new block has got a lot more technology in it. Its more updated block than what we’ve ever had before.”
When asked if the new engine produces more horsepower and torque or is more fuel efficient, Cronquist replied, “it’s just better all over. We're finally more even with what Dodge and Toyota have. It kind of got us back in the same playing field, back in what's considered NASCAR's box. We were outside of the box, actually below the box. We had disadvantages and they finally let us get the same advantages that other manufacturers had over us. I don't think that we've really gotten into much of the performance part about it. A lot of it is that the shop needs just a lot less time to work on the parts and pieces of it. There's a lot of stuff in this block that's already cast into the block that we used to have to make ourselves and try to fit into our blocks. That took a lot of time and effort to do. If the performance comes, it will come because we're going to have a lot more time in our shop to work on it."
Cronquist further added, "A lot of it is that the shop needs just a lot less time to work on the parts and pieces of it. There's a lot of stuff in this block that's already cast into the block that we used to have to make ourselves and try to fit into our blocks. That took a lot of time and effort to do. If the performance comes, it will come because we're going to have a lot more time in our shop to work on it."
Chevrolet’s 5 of 6
The Chevrolet team has gotten to a great start this year in Cup winning five of the six races. The reigning champion Jimmie Johnson has won three of the five races while Hendrick with teammates Kyle Busch, and RCR’s Kevin Harvick have won the other two for GM. The victory of Matt Kenneth’s at California Speedway in a Ford is the only blemish on Chevrolet’s record for this season.
Out of the eight Chevy drivers that are currently in the top 10 in Cup points, two have won at Texas. Jeff Burton won the inaugural Cup race in Fort Worth in the year 1997 but he was a driver of Ford at that time. Stewart won on the 1.5 mile Texas track last fall. The different drivers winning each of the 12 Cup races at Texas only two others have been in Chevrolets namely Terry Labonte who won in 1999 and Dale Earnhardt Jr. who won in 2000.

how mutch nitrous can a 2 bolt chevy small block take?
not forged crank,,but forged rods..hypereutectic pistons..not forged..
It's not the amount of bolts in the mains that you really have to worry about.
The 1st thing to give with nitrous is the pistons.
Cast and hyper is the worst two to run with nitrous.. Hypers is alittle wrose than cast..
The reason why is how they are made.. It's still a cast piston but silicon is added to the melted alum., to make a piston that has less grain, and stronger for norm use, but that added silicon now makes the piston britle.
What you have to watch for when using nitrous is detonation (spark knock) it can happen from a lean A/F mixture, too hot of temps, too much timing, too hot of plugs, too low of fuel octane, etc..
That detonation is a high impact shockwave.. When it happens, it will bust a hyper piston into many pc..
Cast pistons can handle alittle more before they crack..
Forged pistons can withstand even more, but detonation can and will still break a forged piston..
I would run no more than 100 HP shot, but make damn sure you have everything setup right..
Atleast 120 GPH fuel pump (more is better)
Step back 1 heat range on the plugs (if you use an AC R45TS now, go to a R44TS)
pull 4* of timing out of the engine before spraying
And depending on engine's compression ratio run 93 octane or higher (race fuel , 100, 105, 110, 115 octane)
I'm running a studded 2 bolt main 355, hyper pistons, scat cast crank, etc 10.18:1 compression, 172 gph fuel pump, 3/8" line, right at 500 HP NA, runs 11.40's @ 118 mph
I'm fixing to install a 50-300HP (set no higher than 200 shot right now) NX nitrous kit on mine.. But here's my plan
2 gal fuel cell mounted in engine bay
1/2" line
holley blue elec fuel pump and dead head reg.
MSD digital 6 box with N20 retard
Fill cell with 115 octane
Install non projected nose plugs 2 heat ranges colder
close gaps down to .030" to .033"
Set digital box to retard timing 6* when spraying.
