Transmission is a component that transfers the power generated in the car engine to the wheels to drive it. Transmission fluid is the medium through which this transfer takes place; hence the transmission is a complex system in a car.
1. Safety of Gears
In manual transmission the gears get engaged inside a shift fork while the automatic transmission has a torque converter and a set of planetary gears that controls the power transfer to the wheels. When gears engage the transmission oil lubricates the wheels. The particles created due to wear and tear of the wheels contaminate the transmission fluid requiring fluid changes often to remove the particulate matter.
2. Acting as a lubrication for parts
The transmission fluid lubricates all the moving parts involved in the process of power transmission and lubrication make the parts to minimize wear and tear. As the new oil works at low temperatures making less wear and tear the frequent changes of transmission fluid makes vehicle transmission systems to last long.
3. Improvements to filtering effects
When transmission oil is changed the filter also has to be changed in case it is a filter that has paper. A mesh could be reused. The new filters filter better making longer life spans for the transmission systems.
4. Maintenance of gaskets of fluid pans
When the transmission fluid is being changed the technician will normally look at the seals of the pan. If leaking he has the possibility to replace it.
5. Need for maintenance at the correct time
With new research the changing of transmission oil has got less frequent. Some new models of cars recommend oil change only after every 100,000 miles while there are other manufacturers say that their cars need no transmission oil changes. The best is to take your car to the agent of the manufacturer and get the details from their technicians.

Advantages of Synthetic Automatic Transmission Fluid
Automatic transmission fluid fulfills a unique role in a vehicle's drive train. Most of an engine's moving parts require some kind of lubrication to prevent wear and work their best, and the transmission's no exception. It needs an oil to lubricate its gears and cool its torque converter. But an automatic transmission is also a hydraulic device - it uses a hydraulic coupling to select gears, as well as to couple and decouple the drive train from the engine to, for example, allow the car to remain idling while the engine continues to run.
The fluid used for this hydraulic coupling is the same automatic transmission fluid used to lubricate the transmission's moving parts. In other words, an automatic transmission uses the same fluid both as a lubricant and as a hydraulic fluid, a physical medium that transmits power from the engine to the gears.
Because it has to act as both lubricating oil and hydraulic fluid, automatic transmission fluid is one of the most complex oil-type fluids in a vehicle. Both its chemical and physical properties have to be just right. Since electronic selector channels in a transmission can be very narrow, viscosity becomes especially important in an automatic transmission fluid. If the fluid becomes too thin at high operating temperatures, or too thick in cold outside temperatures, it can cause shifting problems and even reduce the life of the transmission.
Because of the high demand placed on automatic transmission fluid, a synthetic formulation can do the job better than a conventional petroleum-based product. A synthetic automatic transmission fluid can be engineered to precise specifications that give it better resistance to oxidation and better overall fuel economy. It can provide clean operation and smooth shifting over a greater range of temperatures. And it can do all this while providing the longer drain intervals and better lubricating properties of synthetics.
Synthetic automatic transmission fluid can also extend the life of your transmission. A synthetic automatic transmission fluid runs cooler and cleaner than a conventional transmission fluid. It's much less vulnerable to breakdown by-products that can clog equipment, and eventually require major repair work on the transmission.
From improved fuel economy to extending the life of your transmission, a synthetic automatic transmission fluid will outperform a conventional lubricant. And a transmission is no place to settle for second best.

Where exactly the automatic Transmission oil filter in my 2002 Hyundai Elantra GLS?
The Transmission got oil pan on the side toward the engine fan not at the bottom like any other auto transmission.
Your vehicle actually has 2 trans filters. One is inside the pan which is mounted vertically. The other is a spin on type filter that is located on top of the trans case. The set up of your trans pan is not unusual, several other foreign cars (i.e. Mitsubishi) have this.
Speedy Lexus IS F won't be a sleeper for long
The 2010 Lexus IS F remains a sleeper. Not because it can't blow the doors off most sport sedans: It can. But it's a sleeper because it's still very early in its life, and no one associates Toyota Motor Corp.'s luxury brand with a true performance brand: They should.
